I think it was a 46 eaton rear. Just a standard inter axle lock and power divider

Wish I had a camera in my early years in the trade. About a decade ago we got a call from a driver that worked for the same company but from a branch down south. He was broke down in a pullout just outside town. Cam tube on the front RH side had cracked all the way around and when he stepped on the brakes, the torque from the brake chamber spun the whole brake chamber and slack adjuster up into the diff filter. He limped it to the pullout. The journeyman and myself had to untangle the mess, weld the tube back in place, chisel the mangled filter off and fill the diff back up. We ended up putting like 15L of oil in it. Got it patched up well enough to limp it the 20k to the shop to replace the patched cam tube and dented brake chamber.

Haven't run across that yet. Have had alot of tubes break off but most time it just drags the pot on the ground. That would have sucked for a side of the road job. I assume it had to be raining or a blizzard too eh?

It was a long time ago but from what I remember it hadn't quite cracked all the way. The brake application was what finished it off. No evidence it was dragging on the pavement.

It was about +36 out that day and like an hour before quitting time too.

To be a good mechanic is to be like a good doctor and ask the patient i.e. The driver if he noticed anything different. .

" Well matter fact yes. It's been making this strange noise for about a month that it never did before . Than just last week I started feeling a vibration. "

I figured the muffler bearing was just getting out of balance , so I added some more washer fluid to the radiator.

Back to high school shop class you go. You’ve got a lot of learning of what fluids are what and what different noises to farting is what. :laughing6:
