If I had 10 to 20k in savings I'd have a truck an be leased on somewhere next week, but we're not there yet. I've got feelers out to a couple companies. If I like what they have to say I'll check into getting a truck an see about getting started. Still think I'm gonna have to wait till I've got comfortable savings built up. So probably summer or fall of 26 at the soonest. Summer of 27 for sure. Wish I had the money now cuz I'd really like to get the Pete I found with 200k on the new motor. I did find a couple nice Freightliner 122 SD's with under 500k on em. They had Detroit's with 13 speeds in them. Those would run around 1600 a month with zero down. That's a little higher than I'd like to start out at but I suppose it'd be doable.

In this economy why on earth would want to be an owner operator if you are doing good as a company driver?

Just something I'm interested in. An we're future planning at this point. Doing what I do I could make out ok. Lot's of people out there run their own truck an hang in there with the ups an downs. I've been doing this for everyone else for 30 years. Personally I'd like to have my own truck and run my own business before I retire.

We've had guys leave Old Dominion making $140,000 or more a year with full benefits to become owner operators and they are doing good in this economy. I know I wouldn't do it but it clearly works out for some guys.

If O/O is your dream then go for it then. I've been spoiled for years making bank working for a private fleet. Never had the desire to be married to a truck. Wish you the best.
