Found a different company. Another owner operator with only a few trucks. Based in Texarkana Ar. Gonna learn how to haul coils. He said something about running Memphis and blytheville an back to Texarkana. There will be other runs depending on rates an stuff but I'll be home every weekend. Starting out in a day cab but he's gonna get some sleeper trucks eventually. The day cab thing will be inconvenient to start with, but I'll deal with it to be home more.

 

Well the plus is with a Conestoga I won't have to do any tarping.

 

Met my new boss yesterday. He treated me an the Mrs to dinner at a local sports bar. Seems like a real nice guy. Wants me to help out with setting up gps stuff and stuff to do with log book issues. Got truck cleaned out today, yard work done, and even got some riding done.

 

I agree on suicide being better. I hauled lots of cable reels suicide when I worked at ATS and those were some nice easy loads. Never had to tarp those either. Only coils I tarped were some eyes to the sky aluminum coils once.

 

Stupid question time:

what is the difference between loading coils?

 

There's a few ways to load coils. Suicide means if you don't secure them properly and they roll forward when you brake, you might be committing suicide lol. Shotgun means they'd roll off the sides and kill someone else... I guess it's called shotgun because the hole in the center of the coils forms a barrel down the length of the trailer like a shotgun? I'm not sure. Eyes to the sky is when the coils are placed on their side so the hole is pointing to the sky. Usually when they do that they put them on friction pads or pallets.
