I skipped my designated fuel stop to avoid the extra weight. When I made it past the last scale (east of Kansas City) I felt safe enough to stop and add 50 gallons.bryan21384 Thanks this.

Many a time. I end dump in the KC area that’s like our second home. I dunno if it was a one stop shop for you or if you guys go there often, but in case you or others don’t know, when you pull down their drive where the barricades are separating the inbound lanes, as you know the door to the right takes you into the office. The door on the left is the drivers lounge with vending machines, and 3 shower rooms that would make the cleanest shower at a truck stop jealous. It’s BYO everything but it’s nice to have available. Ask them for a pamphlet of the history of the mine if you’re nosy like I am. They still use the button tag system where workers take one with them and hang it back up on the board when they’re done, so they know who made it out. There’s pictures of HUGE front end loaders down there they had to piece out and build underground. And the salt you get is something crazy like I dunno how many millions of years old. It’ll show a map of the salt vein they are working. It goes from there to Hutchinson KS and all over, it’s second biggest behind the Salt Lake area. In the winter my company will send us sleeper trucks out there for a week and we are at their disposal to help them catch up with salt orders. Mainly K-Dot, and they’ve always been real nice and a pleasure to work with. They’re good about helping drivers and are usually pretty accurate, at least loading bulk. We load on a scale and we’re licensed for 85,500 and they can stop it on 85,480 on the nose. Glad to hear your trip outta there went well. If you ever need help doing some “detours” out there, lemme know. It comes with the territory pulling a bucket and I’d be happy to assist.Metacoyote and Lumper Humper Thank this.

Thanks so much. Good to know about the showers. The people out there were really nice. They offered to take a pallet off when I scaled over gross. Our dispatch nixed that idea though. Guess they were worried about the receiver. But the scale master came out and helped me balance my tandems to get them asmotocross25, Professor No-Name and Lumper Humper Thank this.
