WOAI, TX
A San Antonio Police Officer was nearly killed while putting out road blocks Friday morning. Traffic Officer Michael Burts stepped out of his unit to place flares at the scene of an accident near the entrance ramp of IH-35 South and 410. An 18-wheeler had jacknifed after driving on slick roads.
Officer Burts responded and began to block off the accident. The 35-year-old officer spotted a van coming towards him and not slowing down. He was able to jump out of the way just in time, and walked away with only minor injuries.
The 22-year-old driver of the van was taken to University hospital. He is expected to be charged with drunk driving.
