"But Caltrans shelved the plan after it met with intense opposition from residents of Oakland and San Leandro, who were worried about the potential noise and pollution if trucks were allowed on I-580. Some said truck traffic would have made the freeway more dangerous and would have caused property values to drop."
Shaking my head at this...
Let's just ban ALL trucks from ALL Interstate highways, in the name of making them safer of course.![]()

There's been some construction going on near Livermore, Richmond bridge ? 15 miles to the 5 .. hmm ?
ethos Thanks this. -
But no one would confuse Livermore with Oakland. Also, going east, there is construction but I can't think of anywhere that would be appropriate to pull trucks off the road. I don't know, stumped on this one.

I think the OP might be mistaken about the 5. Either he is wrong about what interstate he was heading to or he was way wrong on the mileage. I think he must be talking about the 580 880 interchange.

Went through there last night ... basically no trucks past Grand on 580 east bound. First sign is just before the 80w, 880s, 580e split just before the bridge. Second sign is just before the 580e, 980s split.

I got that the OP basically didn't see the 880 and 980 signs, then couldn't do anything at the gtfo now sign at Grand, so just rolled with it down to the 5.

A sign on an Interstate saying "no trucks" is probably the last thing anyone would ever expect to find.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
