I have found most people in California do understand turn signals and will let a truck merge in heavy traffic.

Tomorrow night I'll be taking 880n to cut across 205 to 5 to load in Stockton. To me, beats taking 680 to 84. That way is too #### bumpy. Might save 20 miles but between the roadwork and lights, it'll make no difference

The Livermore Scales are at the bottom of the Altamont pass, so just over 15 miles from i5

I have driven that stretch of 580, delivering heavy equipment, and later hauling into construction projects in Oakland, and I have no problem with them restricting trucks from it! Lol

You just stay take 80 straight onto 880, turn east on 238, which turns back into 580, and you skip all the downtown Oakland wigglies and womps.

If I had to choose, that is the route I would take, because it is designed for trucks.
