Guys, you don't adjust a clutch through the linkage.
Volvos and macks with manuals all are adjustable.
I drove for 8 years without a clutch brake, you don't need one to drive a truck.

I have been the recipient of many a truck with burned up clutch brakes.. Just stop.. select a higher gear and carefully ""rub" the gear until it drops into the higher gear,, then drop into whatever gear you need. I hear people GRIND BANGING trucks into gear all the time.. its just not necessary..

Oh bull-####...
If the truck is designed to be equipped with one, I want it working.
Why should anyone have to do all of this because some other idiot is too lazy to write up his clutch brake so it CAN get fixed, let alone being intelligent enough to even know the purpose of one?
Show the gear grinders ONE time how it’s designed to work. After that, they can buy the next clutch brake after they burn it up. -
I agree Mine is toast has a good 1/4 inch gap Trans still operating fine. Clutch on last Leg But still goes into gear with a little patience no grind

The OP asked if he needs a clutch? Answer is maybe. Or maybe just a clutch brake. In which case they make a two piece in different thickness. If clutch isn’t slipping probably all you need.

Back in the mid nineties, I was a trainer for a large now hideous company.. I was waiting for a clutch brake adjustment (new truck) in service and the student and I were sitting in the break room.. A driver who claimed to be a trainer asked my student why he was there.. he told the driver that we were waiting on a clutch brake adjustment.. The other trainer told my student that the "company no longer spec'd clutch brakes"... This got my immediate attention.. and I HAD to ask this dude "how do you stop the transmission from moving when stopped to get the truck into gear?.. He sat there with a straight face and told me and the student "You just grab the shift lever had wiggle it hard to the left and right (with bonus gyrations as he demo'd his move).. I nudged my student and motioned toward the door.. it was time to leave...

It's a hell of a lot easier if it does work though.Rideandrepair, Dave_in_AZ and MackRookie Thank this.

The reason clutch brakes wear out is that drivers depress the clutch to the floor when it is never necessary. Such as shifting thru the gears or sitting at a red light.
I always float shift and try to teach new drivers the same. A clutch should last at least 700K miles or more.TIMPTE 527 Thanks this. -
What’s wrong with sitting at a light with clutch brake engaged? If sitting still with clutch disengaged and clutch brake engaged. The brake isn’t fighting anythingRideandrepair, Pedigreed Bulldog and AModelCat Thank this.
