Everyone thinks of a clutch brake as just that ........a brake. Common sense would normally make one think to never lubricate a brake thinking it would somehow hurt its performance. Truly this brake is designed to be greased. Properly greased it's really hard to break a clutch brake even if its accidentally applied while the vehicle is in motion. A unlubed clutch brake with hydraulic/ air assisted linkage will snap of the ears quick like you said. Pretty hard to do with traditional manual linkage setup.

I think your confusing the throw out bearing with the clutch brake. The throw out bearing can be greased, never heard of greasing a clutch brake.Bean Jr. Thanks this.

Please tell me how you are going to grease a clutch brake? If you put too much grease in a throwout bearing it will get on the clutch brake, which is not good.
And yes any time you engage the clutchbrake with a manual setup ( I don't care if it is a 64 b model mack) it destroys the clutch brake if the truck rolls, it has no choice but shear the tits off. -
There should be a little slop in the top of your clutch pedal. Somewhere near the floor is your clutch brake.
As your clutch goes out of adustment you have less floor to work with, eventually you must shut off and restart getting a gear. (To the shop)
Your boss was a bundle of nerves walking on cement overshoes tromping on his abused poor tractor. No wonder it rolled over for him refusing to get him a gear. -
I'm not confused.......when the grease purges the back of the throw out bearing directly onto the brake. This is how it is supposed to be. The clutch brake is designed to operate with grease applied and make the brake last the life of the clutch.
It doesnt take much to stop the input shaft from turning and it doesnt need to be dry. Dry is what causes the thin friction material to wear off too fast cuz its thin.Last edited: Jul 29, 2019

Well , I stand corrected. I’ve never heard that, or read that ,in 43 years of owning trucks.
I’ve always greased my throw out bearing and apparently I actually was greasing the clutch brake at the same time without knowing it. -
My clutch brake has a zerk on itBean Jr. Thanks this.

Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I have changed hundreds of them, and have never seen a clutch brake with a zerk or heard of one that even had some place you could put a zerk.
Yes excess grease gets on the clutch brake, but you do not grease it. I never even liked a lot of excess grease, just enough to make sure the bearing is full.Bakerman Thanks this. -
Wasn’t thinking straight, throwout bearing has zerk on it, not the clutch brakeBean Jr. Thanks this.
