Well, Midwest Trucker I have a 19 HX model Inter. I got into the same issue with the automated clutch system second yr. into the contract. Clutch started slipping. In and out of Shops. This piston inside the cab on mine had a plastic bushing with a bolt going through the cylinder rod onto the pivot point on my clutch pedal.
So, this particular mechanic at the stealership kept insisting He needed to adjust my clutch ok?
After approaching me 3 times in a 45 minute span, I broke down and agree to let Him adjust the clutch. First mistake on my behalf.
Left the shop and the Truck just was working horrible concerning the shifting. Went back a cpl weeks later to this same shop. I was told I need a new piston slave cylinder and other parts. Roughly a 5 grand repair and told me warranty didn't cover the problem.
So, put the new parts abovementioned onto the truck paid the invoice and was on my way.
Except for Navistar I would have been on my own. Navistar was informed of my particular situation and I received a check from them 2800 hundred and change.
So, my clutch continued to work horrible. I finally go to another reputable Shop where I was told pointblank that my clutch was shot. Wore out.
I find a warranty Guy from another Dealership, explain my problem to Him.
He checks the warranty on the Rig, tells me He can install a new clutch under warranty. I told the Warranty guy I don't want the automatic self adjustment clutch that came in the Truck. I was informed there would be no more warranty on the new one they installed. This work was done in late April this year and so far no more issues.
Getting back to this Mechanic who kept insisting that He could adjust my Automatic Self adjuster?
He took a 2 foot long Snap On pry bar and proceeded to pry and twist on this clutch pedal inside the cab until He had this plastic bushing completely destroyed what was left of it after normal wear.
So, I had a machine shop machine a steel bushing which replaced the plastic bushing on my clutch/cylinder assembly located under the dash.
A quick fix to replace this plastic bushing is to remove a steel bushing from a slack adjuster and with a little grinding on a grinder you can put this bushing in for a temporary fix.
So, bottom line? These self adjusting clutches may work miracles under light load, but doing the kind of work your doing with your KW I'm assuming your under heavy load and I would recommend getting rid of the self adjuster and going with the regular heavy duty clutch we have been using for yrs.
I hope this is of help to you and you get your Rig rollin every day as it was intended to do. Good luck Midwest Trucker.

Very good point. I may have read the order of events wrong. Regardless, I’ve learned not to make accusations, unless it’s 100% certain. I’ve been wrong many times. In this case, I don’t think there’s any way of knowing for sure.Dino soar, RedForeman, Goodysnap and 1 other person Thank this.

Ok , I just gotta ask......
Hopefully your driver is a few loads in without an issue?black_dog106, Dino soar, SL3406 and 3 others Thank this. -
Either that, or I suspect someone needs bail money.........

Everything was going great today until mid afternoon when the driver started reporting a “grinding noise” when taking his foot off the accelerator at full speed. He loaded and came about 150 miles home. Going to deliver in the morning and run by the dealer to see what they say. I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Maybe it was mental flashbacks from the clutch issues and he’s just thinks he heard it?Final Drive and Midwest Trucker Thank this.

Hopefully, but he was pretty adamant. Figured we’d just take it back ASAP while the dealer is on the hook and before major damages can occur.JoeyJunk and Final Drive Thank this.

After reading about this from start to finish (all 17 pages of it) I think I would want to pour gasoline on the truck, light the match and run!!
(we could call it a mercy killing, lol)
Glad to hear the culprit was finally fixed!
As for the roof damage in the trailer-looks like a forklift driver raised his forks too high loading/unloading not checking the height! SMH
But I’m sure that’s another story!
D.Tibbitt, Midwest Trucker and JoeyJunk Thank this.
