Servo getting stuck because of a crappy air supply...works fine when fully charged but ####s when getting used a few times.

Here's a little insight into what its like being a mechanic at a dealership.
I always hated dealing with warranty work. As the mechanic you get given a limited amount of time and the manufacturer often asks for insane amounts of detail and information. Miss a step and the dealer receives no money for the claim.
Then you get a situation like @Midwest Trucker is in. Manufacturer is probably involved now at this point. In most cases, in order for the dealer to get paid, the mechanic has to follow the information and procedure TO THE LETTER! Miss a step, no warranty money.
The information you receive is from a person sitting at a desk in the tech department, hours away. Sometimes they are former mechanics, most cases they are engineers or are well trained on the theory. They can't physically lay eyes on the problem and are usually just going to send out a test procedure and some service information. Then they tell you replace "X" component.
In a warranty claim, the manufacturer is essential the customer since they are paying the repair bill. If you just go ahead and replace a part that isn't authorized by them, it is no different than a mechanic replacing parts without the owner's authorization.stuckinthemud, InTooDeep, Czar_Zero and 9 others Thank this. -
I remember reading prior in the thread someone mentioning attaching a gopro camera to observe the linkages in operation. At this point it might not be a terrible idea. Set it up and go for a drive. If you can bring a few good clips of the various parts in operation to the shop, it will greatly aid in troubleshooting.

Since all my trucks are full and starting Monday nobody on vacation, what am I supposed to do with my local driver? I know this dealer has a rental division but I’d be extremely surprised if they have availability. So, do I try and find a rental that’ll probably cost me $2,000 for a week? Do I pay my driver $1500 to ride the couch? At this point I have no confidence it’s only going to be down another day or two.
I need the #### truck fixed is what I need. This truck generates revenue but even more importantly supports the other 9 trucks. So, hopefully I can find something to rent on Monday and keep the driver working and the other trucks supported and running at max efficiency.

If cannot get truck fixed or a truck rented would offer work in the yard at least. Not the best option but at least he is earning his money.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

If this is the case, then would it not be a good idea to talk directly to the tech himself if that's possible?
Maybe he could tell you, "I'm not authorized to change this or they won't let me test for this but if you really want your truck to work do this this and this.
It won't be covered under warranty but at least you truck will roll."
And to the regular mechanics reading this, how can a servo be locked up if it's new? What would cause that?
I don't know how any of that works, I only work on old stuff with a regular linkage, but isn't it possible to switch that over to just a simple hydraulic clutch slave cylinder? Or an even more ridiculous thought, isn't it possible to put a linkage on it?

Sometimes having an old beater truck that still runs half assed as a yard ornament comes in handy. Like a $8k or $10k ex farm truck. It's nothing you'd send an OTR driver out in but good enough for your local driver on a temp basis.Magoo1968, haycarter, jamespmack and 11 others Thank this.

Truth or not right thing to do or not that can cost him his job. I understand basic principles and I have quit jobs over less however I would never ask a man to do anything that may cost them their job. Politics in a dealership environment suck. Everyone is jockeying for position and there is no loyalty. I have seen good hard working people held back from moving up not because they were not right for the position that was open but because they were too valuable in their current......and not compensated accordingly.
