On my 2000 Freightliner FLD, I have a 10 speed transmission with a Eaton Solo clutch.

    It developed the following problem:

    1) The clutch cannot stop the input shaft. Even if I push the clutch pedal to the floor, the input shaft keeps rotating and cannot engage with transmission.

    2) If I push the clutch pedal in all the way, I feel grinding noise kind of like gears grinding if I poorly shift transmission

    3) I can get the truck moving as follows: turn it off, push in clutch, start engine (truck still not moving), let off the clutch pedal.

Do you think that it is the throwout bearing?

If you hold the clutch pedal to the floor for a while and it still grinds trying to go into gear, I'd suspect a dragging clutch. Usually its from broken dampening springs but it could be from other stuff too. Worn input shaft splines can make the discs bind up. A seizing pilot bearing in the flywheel can cause the input shaft to keep rotating under power, especially with a worn out clutch brake. Even warpped clutch discs will cause drag.

You can buy a 2 part clutch brake and have a real truck repair shop cut out the old one bolt the 2 part one in no time at all?

    Bean Jr. Thanks this.

    1) Make sure the transmission is bolted up completely to the flywheel housing. 2) Look and see if the clutch brake is there. 3) Look at the wear indicator (replacement indicator) on the clutch to see if the life is gone. A lot of them make it halfway and stop auto adjusting. 4) When you replace ditch the SOLO and get a manual adjust clutch.

Broken springs in the clutch disc,,:crybaby:When replacing, say you want a "severe duty" disc with no springs. Solved my clutch issues, and they won't tell you about it, they want to sell you regular clutches.

1 and 2 of my post still apply. How much gap between clutch brake and release bearing? 1/2" is what you want. Is your clutch pedal all the way up or do you have any freeplay? Should have about 2" before you feel resistance.

    baha Thanks this.
