Uncle Bill, why would an autoshift that floats the gears be odd to you. That's controlled by a computer and won't bang any gears. If you can shift and not hit one of those gears so hard it bangs then more power to you. I don't know how long you've been driving but I've got a few years. I've banged gears before and even in a truck that I'd been driving for awile. And I know it wasn't good for that box when I did it. I know all of us have done it, we scape a few gears once in awhile then you have that one that hits really hard. That's when the mechanic finds the little shavings of metal in the pan. My main point was to get across to new drivers that floating gears does not make you a good truck driver. I've had a new driver that I've took out on a road test and he was floating then he banged the gear. I asked what was going on and he really didn't know what I was talking about. He said that happens all the time and then he told me his school told them to be a good driver they need to know how to float the gears.

Drivers should know how to double clutch before they even think of floating.

When I learned how to float gears I was more concerned with wear and tear on my clutch leg than the clutch its self.
