Don't ride the clutch... Now if for whatever reason I feel like double clutch I may HOVER over my clutch but avoid contact until I need to disengage the clutch( press it in)
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
In Indiana you can fail your driving test for that crap
-
The clutch is just a high priced foot rest for the people who know nothing!
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I took my test in illinois floated all the gears up and down. the guy did not have an issue with it at all didnt even mention it, but the catch is you have to be able to do without grinding a gear. I do love people that ride with their food on the clutch though it brings in a lot of extra income. this being said there is no need y you should touch the clutch pedal unless you are in a parking situation or stopped at a light or in traffic other than that you are just making extra work and money for the mechanic.

I always put a sandwich on my clutch. Keeps it warm.QuietStorm, Bean Jr. and SHOJim Thank this.

More money for the mechanics? If I had a driver in my truck I would much rather him use the clutch when shifting not riding it.I would much rather replace three worn out clutches then one transmission that someone thinks they can float them

then best to stay away from stick all together and get the nice new autoatics that are coming out now.

USING the clutch isn't the issue, or the question posed by the OP. Riding down the road with your foot resting on the clutch pedal is what was asked...which does nothing but wear out the clutch discs and flywheel VERY quickly, as well as generate a lot of heat and decrease your fuel efficiency due to the engine not being 100% engaged with the transmission. There is NEVER a valid reason to ride the clutch. If you use the clutch to shift, it's either being pressed or your foot is off the pedal completely and resting on the floor. If you don't use the clutch to shift, your foot should never get anywhere near the clutch pedal unless you're stopped.
