They had 2 piston pumps then went to triple. Then back to two.

All of the older pumps had ceramic plungers-which are the failure prone ones. Then they were upgraded to steel.

    SAR and spsauerland Thank this.

You can retrofit them with the steel plungers. But they are no longer offering kits if I heard correctly, only new pumps at roughly $3,000 a pop. The kits, if you can still find, work in both the three and two cylinder pumps. But, these pumps still need to be rebuilt every 400,000 miles or so, or I guess replaced. Pretty sad.

    Oldironfan Thanks this.

CM-871 is mechanical, injector cam. The 2250 and 2350 and X15 use the pumps, and are a single cam motor. The X15 I believe uses the same pump found on the 2250 and 2350 motors, the difference is that it is isolated from the oil circuit, so that when it blows apart, it isolates the metal from entering the oil circuit in the motor.

Acutally Dave this morning I scheduled mine into the shop at Xmas for an inframe ...I'm tired of this up and down oil game with it and I don't need it blowing 1700 miles from home .

How much is the inframe? I'm told a Recon from Cummins is $18K, that's the entire engine complete.
