I recently bought a cobra 135 for $3. I'm wondering how this radio compares to the 139, 139xlr and 2000gtl? I know the xlr and gtl have 40 channels and mine only has 23. But now I'm thinking about buying a 40 channel but dont know which one is better. Any info helps.

135 was the better of the 2, I have had both.

Never had a 40 channel base.

I agree with 25, it is the better of the two, if it is serviced and aligned right, it is a better radio than any of the others mentioned.

By the way if you want a 2000, I know where there is one for $250.

Which radio came out first out of 135, 139, and 139xlr? I forgot to add the 135xlr into the comparison.

To my understanding the 135 was the last 23 channel radio made by cobra as a base station. Which in my opinion might make it the best in this category?

135 I believe, I still have the 139, but haven't touched it in years. The 135 got taken out by lightning when my father used it, and was not considered repairable.

In what way was the 135 better than the 139?

The cobra 135 was the step up from the 139 in features, 135 had a clock and had push button switches but it came out a year or two earlier than the 139. It had the same internal design as the 139 but I am trying to remember if it was the same chassis, I don't remember.

The 139 was the "new" updated design used by Dynascan, progressing in the external packaging to something fresh.

ALL xlr models were 40 channel, all PLL and all if I remember right used 858 chips in the pll circuits for a year, then they made a switch to other chips for different markets.

The 89 was the last one to be moved to the 40 channel design, the 135 and 139 moved at the same time with the 138.

The 135 for some reason was always better than the 139 and when it was properly aligned, it was a good radio.

Good to know that I got a good radio that works and it's not the lower version. (If not I'll have to buy the nicer one hehe) Do you guys know if the cobra 40 channel base station is good? I'm a big fan of the looks of the cobra 2000gtl but maybe another brand is better?

I linked a picture of the 139 radio and a url for the 135. They both have a slightly different looking chassis.
