A159B6CD-03C3-421E-9256-6CFEE96FE9CB.jpeg I need help.. I have a cobra 148gtl (old model) with the side mic input. I also have a 5 to 4 pin mic adapter becuase the 5 pin mic broke. And I have a lil wil antenna on the radio.
When I first turn on the radio it works perfectly and I can hear and talk for miles but after about 20min you can no longer talk or recive. If you tap it It can come back or sometimes it just stays like that all day long. I took the covers off and there is a 3 way switch inside the radio with a lot of wires coming off it and going all over the radio I’ll attach a pic
If anyone knows what’s going on or what I can try please let me know
    Thanks,

Maybe a solder joint is going bad? I'd get it to someone who knows how to test and repair the radio, or go the safer route and buy a new one..

It sounds like a cold solder joint, so you should take it to a shop and have them run it for a bit, then when it stops working, they will hit it with some freon to find the joint that is opening up.

What is that knob/switch that is pictured? Is that to operate a noise toy or an echo board? Or, am I missing the obvious?

Ok so I resolderd a couple joints I saw that was iffy if they bad or not and I thought it fixed it and it messed up again. But upon a last ditch effort before it took it to a shop I was touch parts as it was on to see if anything was loose. And it turns out the bigger silver rectangle on the back of the swr cal and s/rf switch which I think is the crystal was causing the problem. I moved it a little and bent it down and now it’s working like it should. But probably just a matter of time before my band aid doesn’t work anymore.....

You may want to wrap that knob inside the radio with some electrical tape, or it could move around and cause a short circuit in your radio. Whatever that knob is used for, it must be set and forget type of deal.
