Hey all I've posted here before, been awhile tho. I have a galaxy 33, it's a nice radio, I'm very happy with it. I use it in my pickup, my dump truck and my play truck. I have a pretty slick setup as far as swapping it from vehicle to vehicle. The problem is my play truck, a 92 gmc short bed, lifted 4x4, standard shift, so there isn't much room for my galaxy 33. I was thinking about mounting a cobra 19 on the roof above the rear view mirror, I've held it up there and would work out as far as room wise. My running group all have channel kits, so we get on the lower side usually down by ourselves. My question is, can I get a channel kit installed in a cobra 19? I realize it's may not be worth putting the money into the little radio, but it's compact size, and no farther than we are away from each other on trail cruising and all, it would be worth it to me.

What about a 257 magnum radio?

[SUP][/SUP]Well I never heard of it, only reason I mentioned the 19, is I already have one. That's I thought if I could put the lowers in it fairly cheap id have it done. I have a little midnight special 250 I was gonna run with it too? Like I said, I know it's not the best radio, but for what id do with it, if it had the lowers in it, it would be fine.

I don't know that you can add a channel kit to a Cobra 19, presuming you have one of the newer ones.
Maybe if you were lucky and knew someone who could do it, you might be able to find a really old Cobra 19 on ebay for next to nothing, back when they were crystal controlled and only had 23 channels, and swap out the plug in crystals for the frequencies you want to use. But even then is there anything with using the allocated CB frequencies for your close trail coms?
As for the Magnum 257, it's a nice radio. It's bigger than the Cobra 19 but smaller than your Galaxy 33. It's pretty basic, it doesn't have the trucker toys aka roger beeps and echo, but it does have a stable SSB mode for skip shooting. Only downfall is some of the later ones had some QC issues. Good thing is Mr. Lewis of RF Limited will take care of you and make things right.
Another radio that is good that is the same size as the 257 is the Uniden PC122. It doesn't do anything other than 26.965-27.405 (CB frequencies) unless modded, but it is a rock solid radio.
