I've got a Cobra 29 in my pick 'em up truck, a Cobra 25 in the wife's car, and a Cobra 25 in my Thunderbird. For work, I'm rocking a Cobra 29, but if truth be known, I would prefer it be a Cobra 25 in the CB slot.

So, between the 25, 29, and 148, my answer would be the Cobra 25, sir.

you can get a decent galaxy 939 for around $200, but if cobra is in your mind, I'd try to find a 148, its the best radio cobra made, any other cobra? not a fan, just my opinion

Sorry just saw this is a very old post

Other than the additional features (including SSB), what do you prefer about the 148?

Wow, we rezed a 5 year old thread. Good job on the search function as this thing must of been in the depths of the underground.

Just take that this is just my opinion, but the Cobra 148 was/is a great radio, not sure if they are still making them or not (i'm not a cobra guy), but they performed very well, in my opinion the new 25,29 just don't cut the mustard, i personally believe they are a through away radio, I pull double belly dump trailers, and the company I driver for is replacing these radios every few months, they just don't hold up to the bouncing we do off pavement, now! I have put my own personal Galaxy in my truck and have had no issues, out performs those Cobras in the other trucks, now there are guys on here the love the Cobra radios, and that's fine, I for one? the only Cobra Radio I would consider buying is a 148
Just to add, a few years back, Cobra came out with a 200 which I had hoped would be a comparative model to the 148, just not the case I'm sorry to say

I've had a Cobra 29 for around 20 years or so and it seems to do the job just fine. Granted, a great number of radios will get out further and sound nicer, but I haven't had any problems with the 29. I should add that I'm not a big CB user, but they come in handy when the weather turns ugly. Just my 2 cents.

Recently had a pair of cobra 29's tuned by a local shop. One was less than a year old, the other approx 15 years old. The tech said the older model was more powerful than the new one.

Point being, the newer cobras just aren't what they used to be.

Oh, and after a few months the new one suffered from a stuck needle on the meter. Since it's a nightwatch model the technician said it was such a big job to replace that I just didn't bother. Guess they just don't make 'em like they used to.
