Ran a General Lee for many years. Great radio, but i hear they have discontinued this model. You can still as far as i know get a Superstar 158. Is what i run now. Has all the bells and whistles as Gen.Lee. Has a couple more gadgets. Under $350.00.

RE: power. Was it in terms of factory settings or the capabilities of the radios? If the former, anyone with a good a good tech shouldn't care. If the latter, point taken!

He was referring to the capabilities AFTER he tuned the radios. Said the older one should be noticeably stronger and clearer sounding to others than the new one would be.

Old vs new shouldn't really matter if you have a good technician they would both sound identical if they were tuned by a decent technician and you would be unable to tell the difference between the two as far as audio quality and you would be unable to hear the difference with a variation of a few watts. I have a Uniden PC 76 made in the Philippines with a 1969 final, a President hr2510 made in the Philippines with the MRF 477 final, a Magnum s9 with the MOSFET finals, another Magnum s9 with the 1969 finals, and a newer Cobra 148 with the MOSFET finals, and all of these radios sound exactly the same because they were all tuned by the same guy..

    Rix43 and Ougigoug Thank this.

I have a gold faced 25 Ltd Philippine radio I bought new in 1991 and still use that radio. A shop in Florida pumped it up for me when Illinois was 55mph for trucks. He asked me where I got that radio and I told him I bought it new in 91. They’re a collectors item and he has one himself. Only made 2000 of them. I like it cause it works great. Just my opinion on radios.
