    Thanks for the help.

Heading west from NC, got routed around the shop in TN, so stopping by this morning wasn't an option, plus he is open 7pm - midnight, in IL now, so I'm on my own. Thanks again.

Gummy bear is most likely correct your carrier is too low for calibrate to function. Go back to the shop and tell them to remove the added resistor and capacitor (a poor mod), and replace the missing jumper JP 36. Then your calibrate will function assuming the problem is not the meter itself sticking. If this RC mod is in there in place of JP36 you may have trouble getting an external meter to calibrate as well.

I bought an external meter. Followed the instructions in the post on here (matched the manuf instructions), getting a reading out on external, but nothing in. I can talk to people within a 1/4 mile, but not much further.

I'm considering chocking up the money I spent on the radio and getting a new radio, as I'm in Southern California now, and don't know when I'll be near that shop again.

Thanks for your help... much appreciated.

Just a thought... if you don't want to wait till you return to the original shop, take it into another shop enroute when you have the time; explain the problem and see what a quick test can discover. Might be cheaper than a new radio. The 29 is a good inexpensive radio, and #### near any worthwhile shop can work on it.

    RonPaul2012 Thanks this.

Search san Diego, only thing I find is a ham radio shop. If you know of something else in area, I'm all ears.
