Cobra 29 & K40 Issue

    That is possible. Also after cleaning the base up mark the location of the whip then loosen the set screws,remove whip and clean the end up with some light sandpaper.
    Any corrosion is not a good thing

    Also that could be dielectric grease or the coil is leaking.
    Not sure if the K-40 is oil filled or not though.

    I ran that Lil Will on my big truck and pickup truck and it had good range.I could not tell much difference between it and the Wilson 1000 with the 60 inch whip.
    Several miles was no problem running my barefoot Galaxy 44.

    Thanks bub, its hard to find good info for these darned things. If the K40 doesnt recover, I may eitger get the 1k or the little will.

    I dont THINK the coil is leaking. This is awefully thick stuff compared to even the thickest of oils I have seen.

    I bet it was grease then.
    The Wilson 1000 is a taller antenna but is the best magnet mount i ever used.They are not oil filled and have silver plated coils.
    Bells CB has a decent price on them.

    Let us know how it acts after cleaning...Good luck man!

    Well, that wasnt a fix. Still lose all contact at speed. I did experiment and it would appear I am loosing ground when moving. The magnet on the base is cracked clean across the diamater which causes it to rock very slightly on a table but the magnets havent come out. Do I just need a new base then?

    Break 19, radio check? Is this thing working?

    :p

    Touching the chrome piece with the adjuster in it will cause the static to cut out when the radio is on if that says anything about anything...

    That is using you to ground out the antenna when you touch it.
    Sounds like no choice but to replace the antenna.
