I purchased this radio new in the box in August 2015, after about three months I noticed that the manufacture date on back of radio is November 2010(might be a good thing), and I have a couple of observations. First on the receive the static level is very low sometimes nonexistant, it reminds me of a couple of 148s Ive owned in the past, sometimes I will disable anl/nb just to bring in static and make sure its receiving. Secondly I have been told the audio is really loud (compared to a newer 29 lx) and all that has been done to it is to turn up amc/vr4. Is it possible that 5 to 6 years ago the receive section had better filtering than the newer 29s? , and as far as the audio was a different audio chip used by Cobra in 2010? I remember reading somewhere that Cobra started using a cheaper one. Any input would be appreciated I was just curious. Happy 1st day of spring(finally) waving!

The newest 29s have cheap RCI boards in them. That 2010 29 would have a Uniden board.

So the board is probably similar to, or identical to, the Uniden 78, if that is the case its too bad they are now made by RCI. If I not mistaken isnt RCI now making the majority of the 10 meter exports ( Galaxy, connex, General, Ranger) and as I posted on another thread here I was not real impressed with quality of the board in the 99v2 I purchased.

Yes. The new Cobra 29's are now, for all intents and purposes, re-branded Galaxy DX 929s.

The basic design is similar, though yes, the Galaxy CBs are better.
