Cobra 29 sounds distorted

Couple more questions. My calibration needle is exact on 1,20,40 for CAL. And all the way left on all three on SWR. The booklet says all the way left is ideal? My concern is on S/RF my needle should be resting where when mic not pressed?

Annnnnd lastly. When I press mic on 19 my needle goes to the + on +30db. Is this good or bad?

I bought a shaft and am now using the Wilson 2000 antenna. Got warned about a wreck on I70 today and it took me few minutes to get to it. I have no idea how much range that was but loved the heads up,even if the hazard is on opposite side
