For those that follow this thread, here's a post on an undocumented (or at least very poorly documented) function. The "via" function that allows you to alter the route the 7700 has selected.

You can alter the route the machine has selected using the "via" function on the Quick Menu. Here's how it works:

Enter the location address as usual and tell the 7700 to calculate the route. When the map result displays on the left half of the screen, tap the map to allow checking the plotted route.

The way to change the route is to force the machine to replot the route over a road you select. First, magnify the map using the '+' key to find the road you want to travel that's not on the plotted route. Then continue to increase the magnification until the road segment is VERY LARGE on the screen. Then touch the center of the road segment so that a red mark appears inside the road display (you may have to magnify the road even more to be able to accomplish this). After you are able to select the road segment with a red line displayed inside the road, go to the Quick Menu and select "via". The unit will then recalculate the route using the road segment you selected. You can repeat this as many times as necessary to get the results you want.

Another trick to making this work the first time. Be sure to select a segment on the road you want to take which is the furthest away from the plotted route, which will reduce the chances the machine will simply double back over the segment you selected (very annoying).

    Some pros for this feature:
    1. You can change the route
    2. You can make single changes multiple times to a route before accepting it

    Some cons:
    1. You can only make one change to a route. A second change in another location undoes the first change.
    2. The feature only works with single addresses. It is not available using the multi-route function.

I've found this feature useful, once you get the hang of selecting a remote segment to make the 7700 fully incorporate your new road. Then, once I'm happy with the route I've crafted I have greater confidence in following its directions as I roll along, instead of being afraid it will again take me "over the river and through the woods".

Hope this helps someone. Happy New Year, everyone. :)

Coming from Loves in Tom's Brook to the Lee Hi truckstop Bebe did fine until I got off the 195 exit. I was less that 3/4 a mi from there and she started with the warning tone telling me I made a wrong turn. Before the tone started it told me I had less than a mile to go. Then it bounced up to 6.8 mi and had some info about I-66 in there.

On a brighter note she took me right to the TA in Troutville w/o trying to ge me to go to the 146. It dropped me at the 150A as it should have.

I think it is worthwhile to reset your unit as follows:

    1. Tap anywhere on the map screen. You should be at the menu.
    2. Tap on CONFIGURE in the upper-right.
    3. There should be a black arrow in the lower-right. Tap on the arrow 2 times.
    4. Tap on RESET.
    5. Tap on ALL
    6. Tap on OK.
    7. The nav unit should turn off.
Please note that everything will be wiped out, including any saved addresses and your truck settings.

If you encounter any problems after that, then please provide specific details:

    • Starting location
    • Destination address
    • Description of the problem and where it happened

Brian, I was on the Cobra website and I see there's a 7750 out now. Is it a better GPS and if so, what makes it better? I've been researching GPS's for some time now and they all have issues of some sort. I'm trying to figure out which one has the least and more user friendly.

Anyway, thanks for all your great info..
