1st of all, the 9800 CO was one of the best trucks ever. Hauled a lot of this countries axxwipe, they did. I too say, in this day, there are so many trucks, just find the one you want. I wouldn't trust ANYONE to work on my truck today, bunch of crooks. I knew some tall fellas that drove those, no tall roof, and did fine. I'm pickled tink to see someone with a brain, and willing to truck with old iron, AND MAKE IT! I don't think you have to go the "drive-in sleeper" KWhopper, unless your name is of Hollywood nature. I'm proud of you!:thumbup::thumbup:

Be cheaper to just find the truck you want and buy it .

Why are you doing this? Just make sure it’s what you want, because if you think you are doing this to save money over something new you are going to be in for a rude awakening, especially if a shop is doing the work

Alright. You are serious about this.
This is a current production 9800 IHC built by Navistar in Brazil. All of the tooling for your truck wound up there.
See what they did to the roof? It is very similar to any 9400 conventional mid roof produced by the hundreds of thousands available in any junkyard.
That is what you want to do. PM me for further instructions....;)

Thank you for the support! But I wouldn't be overly proud yet. As of right now, this is all still hypothetical, and research, for what I hope to do. One of the main reasons for the extra space, is because I'd like to have a decent area to actually prepare and cook foods, instead of stereotypical trucker diet (I'm already big enough, don't need to be bigger).

    201 Thanks this.

I understand it could/would be cheaper... But they don't make the truck I want...

It's nothing about saving money. I know it'll cost a lot by the time I'm done with everything I want. Biggest reason is for living space for me, my lady, and dog/s. And I know that a lot of people do that in a regular conventional truck, but I want something that is mine, that is me.

Holy smokes. Was that one of those LiveLabs or something? I haven’t seen one of those in years. Were pretty common in the mid to late 80s. I guess it was all about installation. Some guys loved them, others did what you did.

This topper was made by a guy in Florida. Name of the company was Remora. He almost had a contract with Freightliner, but they backed out at the last minute and decided to make their own. He got some static from Kenworth about the design being to close to their patented design.

The LivLab was a complete cab that was intended to be mounted on the chassis of your choice. Sort of like a glider, your chassis, their cab. Never did get off the ground.
The STAA act of 1982 was the death knell for cabovers, no overall length laws, just trailer length. It just took about 10 years to really kill them.

Must have only knocked them out not killed them. I’ve seen more of those two story nightmares coming out from behind barns in the last 2yrs than I thought were left.
