I remember seeing that in the PGT driver securement book, so I wonder if they got it from them or vice versa.

That is an easy one to confuse, took me awhile to figure it out. We are so used to working with WLL so much, the breaking strength deal throws us off. Easy mistake.

Wow, I'm glad none of you guys haul the big single coils. Actually I would like to watch some of you try to put 49 chains on a 80,000 single.

What trailer has an anchor point rated high enough to be able to take advantage of the added WLL of a 1/2 chain?

I've got lowboys with anchor points rated at 15000lbs but no flats that I've ever seen has been rated over 5k.

My chain pops have a rating of 6,600# but I couldn't find anything for the rail.

I believe I've seen specs on this at a few manufacturers. Had to pull teeth from the Safety guy to find me specs for the trailers we used, but you need to check with each manufacturer, but on this spec sheet http://www.utilitytrailer.com/files/trailers/4000A_Data_Sheet.pdf it states the Pipe spools are rated for 6500 WLL, so using a 6600 WLL 3/8" chain/binder, the rub rail pipe spool would be the weak link.

I've seen other specs, I think the steel on Transcraft or Fontaine were rated for 6600 WLL, etc.. but you need to check to know for sure what you can count on. I remember having a heck of a time getting that information because "theoretically" they didn't want to get sued saying it would hold so much..etc....so I put the question to safety, then I guess I can't secure it since I don't know the rating as FMCSA regs require me to know. Got my answers. :D
