For years I wore something akin to these
https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/arctix-insulated-bib-overalls-for-men
I found them on sale at a farm supply store in the Dakotas about 18 years ago and wore the first pair during loading and unloading with layered jackets or coats until the knees got too thin after 12 or so years.
I would spray tent waterproofing on them and my work coat every fall.
This is the style of hat I wore for many of those winters in north-western Canada sometimes with a woolen scarf.

The gloves @jdchet posted are what I have found to be best for the -40 type weather when you change to dry gloves regularly.FerrissWheel and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
Just a tip I've learned from working in the cold, I love working in the cold, after you get done working. Warm up in the truck for a little while then go out to make sure everything is right. No matter if your warm or not the cold affects thinking. You don't want a rachet flying off. One time I was outside for about 45 minutes well below zero no matter which scale you use and I couldn't count to 8

My list on flatbed human gear
Bib overalls
Scarf
Whatever hat you like
Mechanics nitrile gloves, (wear whatever you want on top, but a pair of nitrile gloves underneath keeps your hands dry)
For me leather gloves are a waste unless it's dry out, you'll just destroy em (I use the nitrile coated 3 pack thin gloves from Lowe's/menards/homedepot as my "over" gloves and just change em as needed)
Insulated COMPOSITE toe boots, steel toes will freeze your feet faster
Some kinda jacket
With that setup I can secure down to about 20 below (f) for an indefinite period so long as I change the top gloves as needed (longest securement was 5 hours, fully tarped 110 foot crane beam)shawnhhllc, FerrissWheel and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
Yep that is a habit i have made too. Give 5 mintues of rest in the truck after im done then do complete walkround... usually find something i could fix.
shawnhhllc and FerrissWheel Thank this.
