It's cold y'all, so I figured I'd start a thread where we can share tips & tricks to help make it easier & safer to work in the cold.

When hauling crude in cold weather, I keep the bowl heater on all throughout my shift, and I keep my test tubes half-full of varsol in the heater pockets with the switch on low. This makes the samples heat up to 140°F a lot faster.

Not sure if it made a difference, but I always had a few towels on top of my centrifuge like a blanket.

Also make sure your solvent isn’t TOO hot before dropping in the oil. Risk boiling off the water and also boiling the sample over in your hand!

I never liked running the heat while driving, I usually just started heating the element when I stopped, but I actually do my oil testing and don't do it while I'm loading like most do.

Hello there. I have a question that may pertain to this thread. If not, I apologize. I was curious. Regarding L.P. Transport, what kind of J wrench would you recommend? The ones supplied are hideous and slip.

Hey @Shyrage , how ya been?

You're right, J wrenches are bad about slipping. So I went to Hose of South Texas on Agnes and bought one of these spanner wrenches. I also have a non-sparking hammer that came from Northern Tool for when the fittings are too worn to use my wrench
