I thought I'd offend people with my post, but I didn't and I'm glad I didn't. I liked trucking, I was just with a bad company. All y'alls advice helps and is encouraging. When I was moving and working it was fine, I just didn't like the sitting and breaking down constantly;maybe that will change with a better company. Thanks again for y'alls help-I am not alone.

Some of us have got the education, worked the shirt and tie game, with all the associated back stabbing and politics that go on in corporate enclaves. I got the paper, I played the game, I moved to Alaska in the early 80's to escape the nonsense and started driving a truck. Been at it ever since. But none of what I learned thru 3 degree programs is lost and is always useful to some level. I have seen anything from ex Cathoiic priests to retired Air Force light Colonels out here driving over the years. We all have our various reasons for doing it. Only public perception based on a few losers causes the general consensus to be against trucking, and to enforce the notion of the original poster that some here would be offended. That's ok. Those of us that know better also use that to our advantage in many ways.
G/MAN Thanks this. -
How did you like Alaska? I have always wanted to just chuck the corporate & lower 48 life away and just do it.

Maybe you need to self-reflect because feeling like a loser is your attitude. Life rarely goes as planned and it takes a strong person to have back up plans to attain their goals. Good luck to you!

I have a masters in engineering and a PHD in Theology and working towards my CDL, people ask what I do for a living and I tell them I am in school to be a truck driver. I do get some "what'!! comments and other's but in the end it's my life and I will do what i want and don't care what people think of it.

An education is something that you have earned and that no one can take from you. I don't regret one day that I spent in school. I have used some of what I studed in college, but a college education won't make you a better truck driver. Many people get a degree in one field and then find that they either cannot find a job in their field of study, or changed their mind about a career. There is nothing wrong with changing your mind. Millions of people work in careers that they detest. I have always felt that it is much better to make your avocation your vocation. In other words, it is best to find something that you enjoy and can earn a good living.

Trucking is a great job.

Thanks for having this thread! Very encouraging to see many truck drivers from a variety of background. I am in my mid-20s and thinking of transitioning from white collar corporate world to truck driving. Realized the conventional idea of going to school and getting good grades to get a good job was not all there was to life 1-2 years ago, but I am taking action now after much reflection. Researching a trucking school currently and ready to move on from corporate for a while. Funny, I just posted and wondered if anybody out there made a similar change as I did.
