Lights don't always go top to bottom.

There are lights that go sideways too.

I don't think I've ever seen red anywhere other than the left in that arrangement. I haven't been everywhere, though, so take my observations with a grain of salt

They are most defenitely out there.

And if you google. It will tell you which states.

It's been awhile but I think it was NM where I saw them.

    I'm also colorblind. Red-green.

Sometimes you come up on an intersection and they only have one flashing light hanging right in the middle. It's hard to tell if it's yellow or red, especially when it has an old and faded lense. You aren't really sure what color it is untill you pass the "point of no return".

When they hang that single light they don't put up any other sinage. Is it a yield or a stop?

The test they give you are clear cut solid colors in good lighting. No worries.

I'm color deficient myself and have trouble with single flashing lights. My experience with is if it is red there will be a stop sign. If no stop sing the other direction has one. If it is a regular traffic light that is in flash mode, slow down enough to tell the position of your light. Top is your red, middle is your caution. Also pay attention to the other traffic in all directions, follow their lead. Fifty three years, never been wrong yet, knock on wood.
