You're pretty much limited to TAs though and it costs you close to $400/year to have it. They told me if I didn't use the card enough they would deactivate it. I told them to cancel my entire NASTC membership. I'm tired of all their jumbo sized spam letters and packages clogging up my mailbox anyway. Pretty infuriating to come home after being out on the road for several weeks and find you can't get your settlement checks because your box it too full of NASTC trash. Luckily my local post office has been saving my letters at the branch.

It seems all of these fuel cards have some sort of caveats and/or limitations to them creating undesirable situations. I've been using a credit card at small fueling stations like Speedway and paying it right off. The fuel is cheaper when you go outside of the Big Three. With the money I save by buying non-inflated fuel it seems like a wash in the end. Just seems like the best solution for me right now.

Correct on the price and being limited to TA/Petro and independent stops.

I never have a problem finding fuel or a place to park within those limitations.

I pay $40 per month plus the original sign up fee.. but that includes the drug consortium program and some other safety junk that they email out.

The way I look at it, it costs me around $600-700 total for what I’m signed up with through NASTC.

I run around 2000 miles per week and work about 40 weeks per year.

Based on 6mpg, saving $.35 cents per gallon saves me $4k per year.

Saving $.50 per gallon brings it up around $6500 savings.

To me it’s worth spending a little to save a lot in the long run.

Sure. We all have our own unique operations. So what works for you might not work for me and vice-versa. I hated being pigeon holed into using certain chains for fuel and not being able to get my settlements because of their junk mail just put me over the edge.

Couldn’t agree more. Every operation is different.

Too many people can’t make their business profitable because they copied someone else’s business plan.

How does fuel card differ from reg credit card? Is it linked to your job, etc?

For one, a credit card actually helps your credit when you pay it accordingly and your payment terms are more friendly. Most of these fuel cards take it straight from your bank account in 7 days. Also, there's cash back and/or points. Many offer deals with them on products as well. I like that I can use it ANYWHERE I choose. To each is own though and things change often in this business. What works now may not work so well in the future.

I'm liking the idea of a business cc that he would use just for fuel and maybe large business purchases. I'm just wondering what are the benefits of the fuel card over the credit card, especially when it comes to fuel purchases.
