Last week was a difficult week for my family as my girlfriend lost her father and thankfully I was in Charlotte to recover one of our trucks. I stayed home 8/21-8/25 but this situation really put into perspective the difficulties of being OTR. If I wasn't in Charlotte to recover one of our trucks then I would have been a long way from home when this happened. It's tough because I have been looking for local or regional positions but I haven't been able to find the money that I would need to make as I am the sole provider in my household. Here are my miles from the previous week:

    August 18-August 25 (1513 total miles)
1040 miles (Bay Saint Louis, MS-Washington, WV)
473 miles (Washington Court House, OH-Hillside, IL)

This has been the worst week ever! I just had 2 trailer tires replaced last week at our terminal and one of those blew on Monday. Then my boss made me wait until Tuesday morning to get it replaced which almost cost me getting unloaded. Luckily I got there just in time before they receiver closed. Now if that wasn't enough, I got a good reload but yesterday my air compressor governor went bad and I sat all day waiting to get it fixed. And to put the icing on top I am currently out of service for log violations while trying to make up lost time from yesterday....what a terrible start to September :(

Amiller, try getting on with Averitt. There are a lot of good companies that hire in your region. You have the 1yr needed experience. Crete offers 43cpm. Have you checked out South East Carriers, Big G Express, UZ Trans, Abilene Motor Express, Epes, and Schneider Intermodal???

Yes I have been looking but honestly it seems that I can't find the good local gigs. I think I need to go ltl or tanker. Right now I don't have any endorsements

Might be worth it to switch OTR companies that are based in your area and when a local spot opens, you can bid or apply for it.

I think I'm going to stay put the rest of this year and leave at the end of December so I can start 2015 with a new company

Good luck and in my opinion you shouldn't have to falsify logs.

Wow where does the time go? It's starting to get darker earlier and I'm starting to see snow on the radar every once in a while. I'm still holding on strong with the company until I can find the best local job for me. Everyone keeps wondering why I haven't went local yet but honestly it's because local doesn't pay as much as I'm making right now without additional endorsements. I'm constantly looking but I'm pretty sure I'm staying put as we come into the "slower" months. I don't think that would be the best time to transition into a new company especially since I'm the sole provider in my family of 5. I'm definitely on pace to clear $45k net income this year so I'm very happy with that. All in all I'm still able to provide for my family which is the reason I came into trucking. Here are my previous weeks' mileage totals:

    August 25-September 1 (2812 total miles)
    729 miles (Bennettsville, SC-Brownsville, TN)
    1210 miles (Memphis, TN-Cheyenne, WY)
    873 miles (Denver, CO-Minot, ND)

    September 1-September 8 (2763 total miles)
    1659 miles (Minot, ND-Warminster, PA)
    1104 miles (Kutztown, PA-Lakeland, FL)

    September 8-September 15 (2358 total miles)
    456 miles (Groveland, FL-Atlanta, GA)
897 miles (Calhoun, GA-Port Washington, NY)
1005 miles (Deer Park, NY-Jacksonville, FL)

    September 15-September 22 (2781 total miles)
    837 miles (Riceboro, GA-Altoona, PA)
    870 miles (Reynoldsville, PA-Mcrae, GA)
    1074 miles (Albany, GA-Carlstadt, NJ)

    September 22-September 29 (2218 total miles)
    1716 miles (Lewistown, PA-Fountain, CO)
    502 miles (Aurora, CO-Albuquerque, NM)

    September 29-October 6 (3383 total miles)
    1003 miles (Clayton, NM-Houston, TX)
    1000 miles (Orange, TX-Channahon, IL)
    1380 miles (Plymouth, IN-Miami, FL)
