You should receive your hotel card during orientation along with your fuel card and employee id card

Ok, it's official now. :headbang: I put my 2 week notice in today. Tomorrow (after I'm done with my current job), I'm supposed to spend a few hours getting familiar with our terminal. Today, I watched a hazmat movie, & took a quiz. I passed. lol

Congratulations and welcome to the team!!! Let me know when you go to terminal 309 for your first time. Don't worry you will learn the terminal codes quicker than you think. 309 is Chicago and is where I work out of. It's a zoo up there. Always busy.

Thanks for the warm welcome ST. I'm really happy & fired up. I'm really glad I did it the way I did (1 year @ FedEx Express free & clear). Better than training @ an OTR company then sign a 2 year waiver & get treated like a biotch. BTW, I don't know if you know, YRC is starting a training school here @ 324 soon.

Anyway, I'll be running what I guess they call 'Midwest Regional' (Kan, Tenn, Kent, Ind, Ohio, Ill, & Mich). Will drive a daycab & when I get to a terminal, call the hotel & they will send a shuttle to get me. No reason to keep this studio apt. (I'm single w/no fam). So, I will just put my bedroom suite & stereo in storage ($20.00 a month) & that's that. I'm so ready for this. :toothy8:

Oh, & BTW, I think I'll stay away from that other forum you mentioned. [IMG] YIKES! Too much negativity for this noob. lol Maybe after I've been with the company a year or two. [IMG]

I can't tell you enough how happy you got hired when you did. You will soon have some guys below you on the seniority list and that's a very good thing. Not sure why they told you that you would be a Midwest regional driver cause that's a lie. 324 runs as far as St Cloud. Mn. and from there they can send you on to places like Fargo. The reason I'm telling you this is because I don't want you to be surprised when it happens. Always carry more clothes then you think you'll need. As far as giving up your apartment, I wouldn't do that either. There will be weeks where it will get slow and you will spend a couple days at home without working. Don't blame you for staying off the other board. It's a bit overwhelming at first. Stay safe and stay in touch and what ever you do. Don't do anything wrong the first 30 days. After that point you will be in the Union. That's the best advice I can give you.

Hey, thanks for the advice ST. Yeah, they didn't tell me Midwest Regional, I was just guessing from my conversation in my interview last week. To be honest, I'd rather make long hauls. I even brought my passport with me to show him I'm ready for Canada too. lol He said I won't be going there. Doesn't matter to me, I'll go anywhere.
Anyway, about keeping an apartment, I got places I could stay for short periods (friends/relatives) & if just for a couple days, they said I could even stay at the hotel they use here, not free like everywhere else, but, at a discounted rate. If I get laid off or a long stent, then, I could rent a place. I have a Q for ya though: Is it less likely for guys like me, who would transfer anywhere, to get laid off? I mean, I'll go where ever the work is, I don't care.

Also, I look at it as a win/win situation. Worst case scenario? I come back to FedEx. I didn't burn my bridge. It's all good. [IMG]

well went orientation with about 8 other drivers, walked all over the yard at charlotte terminal. the instructor said the day was over and we all left. i get a call i believe on friday asking me when i was ready to start, i said monday 0800, the guy said okay and hung up. now it's tuesday afternoon and haven't heard anything back. just wondering if it's just there is no extra loads on the extra board. just curious if this is normal, i'm still working my old job just to stay up with the bills.........advice?

Well thats cool they got a school coming now. Its a good idea, especially if a dock guy decides to end up driving. I still think about making the switch to the other terminal to be a road driver next year. Still debating and will see where I am at by next year. Let us know how everything is. I had no work 3 days last week but was not the only one to go home. Got busy again this week though

Skinny 30 days... WHAT IS THIS!? I got to wait a 100 days of working for me urggggg

And Catfish I am not sure but I know last week was slow for everyone. With the holiday coming up it will get really busy again as everyone wants to ship everything out before the holiday...

    1catfish Thanks this.

Also I got no orientation. I went for interview, took road test, went back the following week to fill out paper work, drug test etc, then started the following week. I watched NO VIDEOS at all, and my haz-mat test was to sign it LOL. My forklift test(all city rookies have to work dock shifts when slow or needed) was basically how to use it... the guy testing me knew I was from CWF and said ok your good lol. Guess smaller terminals are different

    1catfish Thanks this.
