He was correct you will never go into Canada. We own a Canadian company called Reimer and they come into place like Salt Lake, Chicago and Dallas to pick up our Canadian freight. As far as the transfer goes, that's kinda hard to answer. If you get laid off at 324 and another terminal is hiring you can transfer there but you give up your seniority which is the most important thing you have here. There are other instances where you can transfer to another terminal and keep your seniority and the company will even pay all of your moving expenses including your lodging at your new location. That situation is called a Chang of Operation and that is where they realign the way the freight flows across the country. I have moved 4 times. Not fun to due but I have never missed a day of work and they really take good care of me and my family during the transition time. If you do get laid off it will be sometime in December and will only be a couple months. If things stay the way they are going I don't think you will get laid off at all

This is very common. Guys on the bottom of the board will typically not work on Sunday and Monday. Most of the senior drivers want the weekends off so you should plan on working the rest of the week. Always make yourself available for a work call and never and I mean never miss a work call. Hang in there. I promise it will get easier. We've all been there.

Squonk only has 30 days of probation because he is in a different region and different job class than you. He is in the central region conference and only has to wait 30 days. You were hired as a casual and the probation period is longer. In the central conference they are not allowed to hire casual drivers on the road. Don't ask me why it's like this. These rules were made long before all of us. The entire country as a whole was slow last week for some reason and yes things will get busy until the holiday but will slow to a screeching halt for a week there after.

I hope I answered everyone's questions. Gotta get to bed now. My partner and I should be pulling into Tracy, Ca around 04:00. I have to drive out after they finish hooking us. I'll check back in tomorrow.

Thanks again ST. Tomorrow, during my walk-around the term., I'm gonna ask a crap-load of questions. I have no idea how YRC does things yet. That's all I need to know (the YRC way), then, I'm ready to rock.
-
well, first night in the books. did two round trips to kernersville and i'm glad i didn't quit my primary job. i didn't know how easy i had it. i'll keep yrc as a weekend fill in job for some extra money, but fulltime no thanks......

OK, I'm sure y'all get asked this all the time, but do you think YRC is solid? As a former Glen Moore driver, I'm a bit wary. You know how it goes- once bitten twice shy.
But I loved working for Glen Moore, and you can't beat the free insurance (at least mine was free, don't know if it works that way for everyone.) I see they plan to hire a bunch of road drivers.
Is it worth the gamble? YRC already screwed me once. I suppose I'm stupid to even be considering going back to work for them. -
Well, the only part of your multi-part question I can answer is the part about insurance & yes, it's still free. As far as them going under & stuff, I don't worry about it. I'm a noob so I'll have plenty of other things to concern myself with once I start next week. I just feel fortunate they hired me with barely 1 year (part time) experience. Hopefully they'll stay afloat, but, if they don't, I'll just move on. Besides, I don't think I am in a position to be picky. I need a couple more years under my belt.

No dont worry, we are NOT going under, heard the company is finacially stable now and profits are coming back. Bills have been pretty decent coming in as well
1nonly Thanks this. -
Right on ACH1130! That's why I prefer this forum. You, SkinnyTrucker, & most others here have a positive mental outlook. Couple other forums, alot of the guys are VERY bitter, & ya know, I understand that. I'm just sayin for now, I prefer positive vibes. I don't need to hear that crap right out the gate. I prefer to form my OWN opinions. For now, I'm a very happy, fortunate noob.
