If you go with Swift, go with refrigerated division. You'll make more money. Swift Flatbed is good also.

Whereabouts in TX are you located?
As for the oil fields, many employers have a 14/7 schedule. On duty 14 straight days, then off duty 7 days. Its up to you get your self home, and back to work.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
I am just outside Fort Hood, central TX. Transportation to and from is a non issue. My work history is the biggest concern at this point. I may need to go OTR or regional for 6 months to a year before I can get on at the oil fields. But getting on with Haliburton or some of the others is a huge goal. I would move closer once I got on and knew I had some time on the job (job stability). That is the whole reason I will get HME and T endorsement right out of Troops into Transportation. I know hoppers and bulk tankers are down that way too and a bit of niche driving so maybe a bit better pay there too. Houston is 2 hours or so away so a bit far for the refineries right now but also a good opportunity once we move,Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

Some of the issues you run into might be insurance related but I think with out going into great detail to let any prospective employers know a little of the “why”
You have a story and not one that says I just wasn’t wanting to work
That might go a long ways if it’s not an insurance angle from the company
More and more are being told what they can and can’t do by the insurance companiesAnother Canadian driver Thanks this. -

The recent exp for insurance is the road block, not the companies themselves. One company did a pre-hire based on such a letter. We did not discuss the actual problems, just that I needed to provide care and the times the care increased and how that is currently taken care of. I am not the first nor will I be the last person to ever need to take care of a loved one for an extended period of time. Once I get back on the road and keep mvr and dac clean a ton of opportunities will open up.Another Canadian driver, MartinFromBC and GYPSY65 Thank this.

Today's update talked to Swift about their Flatbed division. They got something for me out of Laredo 3 weeks out and 3 to 4 days home. So that works.
Knight Transportation also got in touch today, they have a dedicated run out of Shreveport, preloaded, on a Conestoga trailer, strap n go baby. Live unload and reload back 14 on 2 off. The recruiter sent a message to that account manager and asked them to reach out to me to get the details. I really like the idea of the dedicated run and we were looking to move to east TX after I got on with a company close to the TX LA border anyway. I cannot get my passport just yet, I have all the documents and such, but they need to send off my original birth certificate and it would be 8 weeks or so before I got it back. I need the birth certificate for the driver's test in late November. Thats ok I will send off to vitals and statistics and request an additional copy of it that way when i do send off for the passport i can still retain a copy of my original.
I have only read some online reviews of Knight most are from 20/21 it seems the experience there is split and may depend upon the division or new drivers. If you read this and work for knight currently or recently, or if you know someone that does, I would like to hear your feedback thanks in advance.Last edited: Oct 18, 2022
