My connex 4600 turbo needs airflow if I am talking on it for extended periods of time. My old 4300 HP used to get hot even when mounted below the over head also. -
Here is a better picture, Sitting on top of the Uniden Grant for size comparison to a full size CB.
Also an on air, in vehicle review in the process.

The Grant is a SSB transceiver, the new one above it is AM. The first pictures on this thread reminded me of the compact AM radios Cobra has sold for years. I like the looks of the PC boards, but I would like to talk to a technician who I trust before laying out the cash to buy one.
I have one of those 29 Chrome Radios like Hanadarko has and I like it, but the factory mikes aren't very durable, at least the plug isn't. I have a 148 GTL that I haven't used in awhile, and a 959 that got shook loose when a U joint went out on a short wheelbase truck I happened to be driving. I should get the Galaxy fixed but haven't yet.
The Galaxy CBs other than the newest SSB model and possibly an AM model have the mike plug into the side, like the export radios from them mostly still do. I like the 979 with the front plug mike because it will go into the cubbyhole in the headliner.
The truck I have now has the plate with straps and power posts on the dash, and since it is leased, I'm not too worried about fixing it riight as long as it works. -
Look foward to the review, are you going to post on the Zed too??? -
Any more news here? Waiting on the SSB version!!!

I run a GRANT LT and love it ...

Probably the best non-sideband trucking radio. Front mic plug, easy band selection, dual finals...............I don't own one anymore, but it would be my pick if I was in the market.....(you can turn the echo off too if you so desire!!!!)

FWIW, those that have not tried the 880 you are sorely missing the boat.
Some key features that make this radio stand out:
The provided mic is INDEED noise cancelling. Not only that it is a clear and concise mic. One of the most accurate voice reproduction mics I've heard.
With proper tune this radio has modulation to spare.
The receiver is EXCELLENT and the receive audio has great fidelity.
RF gain works very well.
Weather reception is the clearest I've heard on any radio to date.
It's possible to tune this radio and match it to the amp of your choice. Variable power can also be added.
On this test radio I installed variable power. It sounded great with the stock mic as well as a EC2018 Xtreme echo mic.
After this I decided to try the TRB3 echo board. This was a total PITA to install, but once done combined with the factory NC mic it sounded punchy and very clear. Must be sure to set the gain on the echo board at 20-25%.
Great care is needed when installing the echo board so as not to damage the radio.
No room for the echo control in the face so it's either out the side, bottom, or rear. Really the EC2018 is the more economical choice albeit a bit on the bassy side vs the factory mic.
Hopefully the 980 will work as well as the 880. -
I think I'll keep using the one with the leash attached.
