I just came across a 06 Volvo tri axle dump truck that caught my intrest. It has the d12 motor, with a 18 speed, just over 300k miles. Any common problems with these motors?
I have a d12d in my 06 vnl780... 1,397,000 miles. Had to do the turbo at 700k and injector cups at 1,100k (still has the factory injectors) other that running the overhead every 150k it's never had any work done
Truck looks real clean, just wasn’t sure about the motor. Around here it’s all kenworth/Pete or Mack. Not a lot of Volvo’s
Dump trucks are harder on the drive train, my dealer told me the d12d is about as bullet proof as they come... Only downside is only volvo or mack can work on it
I have an 05 volvo vnl670 D12d. 13spd. 1.6 million still going. Low mpg but starts everytime as far as i know its on original internals including injectors. Not sur if a new set will bring up the mpgs. Egr valves can be a problem on this motor if it has a has an OTR kit to Fix them then it should not.be a problem. Otr doesn't make kits anymore fyi
Its a great engine. When I was a company driver I drove a D12 volvo for almost 150K miles and the only thing that went wrong was the air compressor started leaking coolant into the air system. I bought a 06 volvo myself afterwords and became and owner operator. It currently has 1.2 million miles and still running strong. I also had the air compressor problem so that got replaced, 1 injector went out, i had to replace the fuel pump and accessory drive, the fuel filter housing has a tendency to leak air into the system so i replaced that, clutch fan went out at around 900K. The engine itself is doing good though, i will warn you if you have a egr code for faulty egr system it will derate the engines power and the truck will be slow, it will still run but its going to be slow.
