well, at least I get the general take that it is one flash with regular lights to signal a driver over. I have an older model Toyota truck, so so problem turning lights on and off as I see fit. In traffic trucks have to have people let them over "4 wheelers" or not. It is smply not possible to get from point a to b without changing lanes and having to merge etc. I think I have seen a few trucks miss their exits due to other drivers being pricks, but for the most part someone usually slows down so they have room to merge. Nice to be able to signal with lights too though, as I figgure that is easier to see. I know that in my pick-up with it loaded full of crap I can see lights flashing from other people, usually in trucks, letting me know it is safe to change lanes, etc.

Lurch said, "DngKat - I got the idea from the Dilbert cartoon that ran on TV a few years ago. Actually, if I had my 'druthers, it would operate like a Star Trek phaser - bright light, chirpy sound.. and nothing left but monatomic dust. Nothing left to puncture tires or pose a mess for state DOT to pick up."

Realistically, it would be a top-mounted missile rack, loaded up with high velocity missiles. Guidance system would fire 3 missiles at staggered intervals, aimed for the rearmost left set of tires still on the highway. First missile takes the trailer up in the air and to the right.. second missile takes drive wheels, and third missile either takes the left side steer, or just punches into the cab and goes boom.

The idea being, of course, to blow the whole thing off the road and away from endangering other drivers.

There are design alternatives, but that's the core design.

Problem is, I can't get either FMCSA or the state to OK it for legal road use.

    Well, dang! We gots to do somphin' 'bout dat dere rule!!! :O_o_1PIRATES34: You are toooooooo funny! But considerate . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

    So here's what I think I think -----------

I'm a professional Big truck truck driver.
Inasmuch -- I'm required to drive the other vehicles as well as my own.
I learned that in drivin' school and I've heard it repeated a million times.

    Experience and Instinct ---
Do I trust 4-wheelers signing me?
Not as a general rule BUT --- SOMEtimes Big truck truckers drive 4-wheelers, AND if y'all are payin' attention, you can usually tell who's who by the way and the timing in which they signal.

When I'm drivin' low to the ground while travilin' --- I'll pick a Big truck that's drivin' about the same speed I want to -- and drop in behind 'em for the draft effect at a safe distance. If I see a left flasher, I'll take the left lane and hold speed while the big truck moves over. And return to the right lane before them -- if I can --- and flash 'em over.

A trucker payin' attention will notice what I'm doin' for 'em and why. Follow the leader for a couple hundred miles.
There were times when the Big truck exited before me --- and it's almost like a friend is leaving -- and they musta felt the same, 'cause they've blowed their air horns and waved as I passed.

    That's what experience is.
    Gawd it's a beautiful thang.

    God bless y'all! :biggrin_25514::yes2557:

Yeah, Aftershock! I hear ya! I've had special stories like that one. But it's harder to find those moments in the broad daylight. Seems most of the 'real' drivers 'fly' at night. I remember following one "ol school driver" from Columbus, OH to Shreeveport, LA one night. It sure was a treat to finally meet up with one. Gettin' to be a rarity nowadays!

I wanna be an "ol school driver" when I grow up.

Well I personally like to see the light show, so two flashes to let em know there clear! not that hard to clear us, most o/o pass us like we are on jack stands.
I know until you have actually been in a truck you realllllllllly have no idea how much room they need to turn, for instance here 4 way stops signs everywhere, cars and 4 wheelers sit right on the line and wonder why the trucker is waving them through with a very peeved look on there face and ready to give the middle finger salute, I kinda like my Mustang so I pull up way back and give them plenty of room, yea I get peeved if they don't even give a tiny wave as thanks, but lets face it guys common courtesy is cheap and doesn't take any effort. If all drivers could show a lil more courtesy the road would be a better place to be.
I do have to say some drivers at the stop sign do it because there ignorant and others are just plain Wads.
