communicating with head lights

Imean't by flash turning lights on and off very quickly! Sorry for confusing you.

 

You won't be blinded by the high beams if you don't look at them. At night you need to avoid looking at white lights, so when you check your mirror, focus on the top edge of the mirror, don't look at the headlights of the vehicle you're passing. Just like when someone comes at you with high beams on, you focus on the fog line to avoid ruining your night vision.

 

Here's what I do concerning 4-wheelers coming onto the road. When they make their customary entrance ramp slowdown and look back, I flash my lights as if to say "I see you, I'm looking out for you darling, please get on the road ahead of me NOW." Now let me qualify this by saying I've never been blinded by someone flashing their brights at me and maybe I'm just not that sensitive, but when it comes to communicating with the driver of a car, I want to use the most visible sign possible and that's usually the brights. I think the confusion comes when some car drivers aren't sure whether the flashing lights mean 'look out ,I'm coming through' or ' Go,fly like the wind'??

 

You're assuming the 4 wheelers understands what you're trying to say, in most cases they don't have the foggiest idea and big trucks scare them (if you're driving one). Also, flashing brights is a warning signal to many and may slow them down even more. I'd stick with worrying about big trucks and using the proper technique, turning lights off then on, not using your high beams... just my thoughts

 

I think what you highlighted is exactly what I said. I doubt any government agency is gonna try to encourage cars to go when someone flashes their brights even though it's the most well known signal to get going.

 

I think you over estimate the intelligence
of both.
