sleeper trucks are provided a curtain, afforded for privacy use. The vehicle is in public with three windows to which there is no legitimate expectation of privacy. You may also legally cover the camera when the vehicle is parked. there is no caselaw supporting your opinion, but plenty of caselaw in opposition of it. I wish anybody the best of luck trying to bring a lawsuit against the company for interior facing cameras

Lp Transportation had driver and road facing cameras when I worked there about 4 years ago.

The safety guy told us a story about 2 trucks involved in a high speed head on collision on a 2 lane somewhere in the Midwest. He said 1 driver survived but 1 did not, the survivor claimed the other driver crossed the center line. After retrieving the camera footage from the deceased drivers truck it proved that it was the surviving driver who crossed the center line and exonerated the deceased driver. Supposedly he admitted to texting later on.

I didn't really think that was a great story to justify the cameras.

Phone records and an outside cam would’ve told that story.

For an OTR driver, this is the equivalent of a company installing visual & listening devises in your Home. In an industry where we can barely trust a company to PAY us fairly (they get away with more “free labor” then any other industry I’ve Ever worked in), why would you grant them ANY such leeway? Thankfully, some states have LAWS against cameras or monitoring devises “anywhere nudity may occur or privacy might be expected.”

I dont need a company watching me pleasure myself runbing one out on my 34 restart or 10 hr reset. I would NEVER drive for a company like that

The righteous indignation and spluttering rage on this topic just makes me shake my head. If you’re behind the wheel in a company truck, you’re an employee, and I’ve never heard of a job where an employee isn’t subject to supervision while working.

As for privacy in the sleeper berth, it’s the easiest thing in the world to cover the camera.

We’ve went for generations without these things. I say save it for the ones who don’t know how to drive.

Better yet, cut them loose and leave the good drivers alone, instead of giving some dweeb somwhere a job spying on truckers from his parent’s basement.
