An insult is putting it mildly. Driver cameras and or voice recorders are a completely unacceptable invasion of privacy and violation of individual rights, at least in an otr setting where the truck is the drivers home. PARTICULARLY for teams. If they haven't become COMPLETELY corporatized and corrupted I'm betting the courts would see it the same way.
Companies currently using driver cameras...

How does the camera know to start recording 4 seconds before an event? If the cameras are smart enough to recognize an event 4 seconds in advance perhaps they could just alert the driver so they can avoid it altogether. My point is that's a bogus defense of DF cameras/voice recorders.
If there's a driver facing camera and or voice recorder you can assume it's on at any time of the day or night.
Oh. And all the people (sheeple? Lemmings? Herd animals? Good slaves?) who defend this draconian practice with the excuse that it's the company's truck and property need to go back and read your bill of rights: individual rights trump corporate rights EVERY TIME when the two come into conflict. Go get your nuts back.striker, CerealKiller, JForce28 and 12 others Thank this. -
Wow! Exactly! I think we need to have some stones and display more an attitude of freedom and personal responsibility! If her and her hubby needs Big Brother to hold their hands... then that's their issue! This is my last reply... again, have a good day!Last edited: Dec 29, 2015
Trucker61016, 88 Alpha and Ketchikan baby Thank this. -
1) Front facing camera will absolve a not at fault driver in an accident. DF camera not needed for that. 2) Cell phone records will prove cell use at the time of a crash. DF facing cameras are not needed for that either.

I am not justifying it or them. Just stating what they told us and what we know.
We agree that they are only to protect the company. But that is not even good enough reason.Doc W Thanks this. -
Meant to say i still don't like the inward facing camerasKetchikan baby Thanks this.

I would love to, but my only other work experience is working in golf course maintenance for 5 years right out of high school. That job is low paying and seasonal, so at my age, I pretty much have to "keep on truckin" regardless of the situation.

This clearly is a topic that is highly contested, I stand by what I said. I have seen the camera save drivers from allegations that without them (camera) it would otherwise have been an uphill fight.
I see the benefit (of the camera) and I don't mind, others don't see the benefit and do mind. There are plenty of things one can use their testicular fortitude to rail against, this doesn't happen to be an issue that I oppose or feel the need to oppose. I like my 90k/yr job, I choose to accept the conditions of my employer. That's the great thing about free will.
Make your choice and enjoy, it's really just that simple. -
Star Transportation in LaVergne, TN has cameras mounted in the front bumper of all their new trucks and plan on getting them in every truck. But they said they will not have cameras watching their drivers as it's an invasion of privacy.
Mtn Gal and Ketchikan baby Thank this.
