Companies currently using driver cameras...

And you believe everything you read on the internet, especially from a corporate website trying to defend it's own product?

I'll believe the Black Horse driver who told me that his camera turns on multiple times per day regardless of the road conditions, and even when he's parked. I talked to him at length about it one day when he was delivering where I ran dedicated.

If he's on a perfectly smooth road, with no bumps to trigger the camera, and even better, when parked somewhere, than either someone, somewhere, is remotely triggering it, or it is set to record "events" randomly regardless of whether or not an "event" actually occured.

 

So lytx drivecam is lying? Cmon' man! My only argument is that there is no way possible to monitor all the camera's all the time and have it make financial senses or common sense. Do you want to watch a driver activities around the clock? I don't believe everything on the internet.....they let you on and you really have no idea of what you speak. I'd take the word of a reputable company over yours.

ps; the safety guy told us he doesn't have time to watch all camera feed. he only checks stuff the off-site vendor flags as important, and anything the drivers ask him to watch.

 

Not aware of Celedon using them either. I have a friend that works there and he doesn't have one and will quit when they try.

 

Jb hunt tried them but last I knew they only had like ten or so and was leaning towards removing them.

 

It's a wonder they didn't anymore. Those folks are all about it being the drivers fault.

 

Actually not all of them. The ones freymiller uses are stand alone. The only satellite link is GPS for speed and location stamping. They are not hooked too the Qualcomm at all and have no way too hook them in. They simply record when triggered either by gforce or by the driver. They can be triggered by speed too but I'm pretty certain they have this feature disabled because no one ever said anything too me when I went over the limit.They might have them set at the engine overspeed limit, never hit that. Anyhow when triggered it records 20 seconds before and after on an sd card and then when you pull into the terminal it automatically downloads too safety via wifi. You can buy these cameras on Amazon for around 400 bucks. I looked them up to find out all the specs on them.

 

They record on a loop, in other words what is recording now is recording over what was recorded 20 seconds ago. When there is an event the camera runs for so many seconds longer and then stops and sends or saves everything not recorded over and then resumes stand by recording. That's how it gets before and after. The cameras that have a satellite uplink can usually be live monitored. Just search your camera for a model number and look it up online too see it's capabilities.

 

That's because it would prove half the crash they blame on drivers was never actually their fault. You have any idea how many drivers have quit over that malfunctioning bendix breaking system of theirs because you can't tell them it's screwed up because too then that thing is God. Those cameras would open up a crapstorm for them and they know it.
