Well this post has certainly degenerated to the lowest common.

I'm just wondering why US X is buying standard this time around.
Anyone hear anything on the why of it?

keep in mind, you only drove it a year, I said the samething for the 1st year that I drove mine, I've since changed my opinion of it. Believe me, I wasn't a fan of this thing in the first year either, took me probably 18 mos to get fully used to it and find that I can do everything with it that I could with a manual.

I wouldn't have knowledge of the reason(s) why, but dependability must play a part in this. I'd like to see "striker" on the side of the road when the computer craps out, and he cannot shift gears, since it's dependent on electronics.
To Striker, so what i have "only" 4 years driving an automatic. it's what the company gave me to drive. all weather conditions as you would have driven in, up to and including snow covered roads that the DOT does NOT get to right a way. truck make, model whatever, is inconsequential. the automated shift transmissions stink. you like 'em.....?? good for you.

most of us "real drivers" like manuals just fine, and you'll see us driving by you when your computer craps out......and your precious automatic is dead stopped in its tracks.

a famous southern saying (when someone is being nasty to you)...."i'd like to help ya"..........

further, i had proven the WY license thing about automatics, your story held no weight with me or anyone else. i had proof, you did not......

    "id' like to help ya".......

    buh-bye,,,,,,

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL, I love it when people bring up problems that have been solved and currently occur in less then 5% of all autoshift trucks. But, then again you have no knowledge of that do you, you make assumptions (you know what they say about assuming) about something that was a previous problem.

Then again, I guess it could be like those PERFECT, non-failure manuals. Oh wait, yeah, you know a manual never fails. Our two manual shift freightshakers have never had a tranny problem......oh wait......yes they have. One is on it's 3rd clutch in 500,000 miles, oh and the tranny was rebuilt at 370K, and before you attack the driver, he's been driving trucks since '74 with close to 4 million in exp. only driving manuals. The other, the clutch went out on it at 400K, the tranny had to be rebuilt on it at 290K, again driven by someone who has only driven manuals and has 25 yrs exp. Both of these trucks have had the clutch brake replaced at least a half dozen times.

Whereas, my first autoshift went 678K on the first clutch, and actually it was only because the clutch brake failed and had to be replaced, that they replaced the clutch as a PM item even though it was suggested it could go another 100K. The trans was never rebuilt, oh and it only left me broken down on the side of the road once in 978K miles. You see, the simple problem was a lowest common builder issue with Eaton, the problem was solved in '04 and is not a problem now.

So again, what your saying is that all transmissions stink, since as has been pointed out, an autoshift is a manual controlled by electronics. Also, if in 4 yrs time, you couldn't figure out how to safely and correctly drive a an autoshift in ALL WEATHER CONDITIONS so that it didn't stink, then you need to learn how to drive. It took me all of one winter to figure out how to make mine work and get around the computer.

As for your second part, typical a-hole attitude of a lot of todays truckers, sorry I can't or won't help you.

Feb. 1998, while driving manual shift Mack, the trubo blew, happened at 8 pm, it was 30 deg. and snowing at the time. I sat there until 4 am when a WYDOT plow truck stopped to see if the truck was still occupied, he gave me a lift into Wamsutter, Wyo. where I was able to call my boss and arrange for a wrecker. Not a single ##### fellow trucker stopped to help or check on me. I heard two or three people ask on the CB if I needed help, each time I replied yes. Not single person, so I guess that goes to prove your old Southern saying, but it also goes to prove another point, all truckers are nothing but steering wheel holders who can't be bothered to help anyone but themselves and godforbid they help a fellow human.

March. 2009, the upper rad. hose blew on my current truck leaving me stranded on the side of US40 (Berthoud Pass), over 2 dozen semi's drove by me, my triangles were out, my hazards were on, my interior lights were on and it was obvious the truck was still occupied. Not a single trucker stopped to help me or see if I needed help on the CB.

So as for your second comment, based on what I've seen from my fellow "Knights of the Road", I prefer to carry a fully charged cell phone and help myself.

No, I've been the sameplace I am every weekend and every weeknight. Cuddled with my wife watching tv with my dog sleeping beside the couch on the floor. I spend less than 2 weeks a year sleeping in the truck.

No, my comment about Wyo. only were dismissed by you and your lone minion. The with your "knowledge" about autoshifts.

As for helping me, sorry, when I need help I'll call a professional, not a wannabe who thinks they know it all because they did something for 4 yrs.

BTW, based on your "knowledge", I spent 3 yrs as an EMT and 3 yrs as a Paramedic, I guess that should make me head of Johns Hopkins ER Dept., after all I should already know it all. Time to get my resume ready.

why you deny what was printed in black and white, in a state manual...tsk...tsk......you show your inept ability to realize the state laws.

if you're home all those nights and weekends, how did you make an "alleged" million miles...??

and you better take you BP, you're about to bust.

oh yeah, you ain't a cuddling with the old lady, if you're on the pc.......

How long did it take for you to get it all figured out?

It took me about a week...At the most! The thing was simple as hell to operate but it still had it's limitations.
