Mary: It has been over a year since I posted my last comment here on this thread. I now have my CDL class A license, and I'm no longer searching for companies w. automatic transmissions. The clutch isn't so bad after all, and my school had the stiffest clutch out there.
I have no experience as a truck driver yet, but have done lots of research. Please do some serious research on transam and proceed with caution. Just my opinion.
Companies running automatic transmissions?

That's good to know..yeah, I don't always look at the dates, especially if I'm on my cell....
TransAm did come to the school, also Werner and May Trucking.
I did apply to May, haven't heard back yet.... I really want to drive a tanker (Nope, not a clue why, I just like them!) but I'll pbly have to start out with dry van. Reefers just dont' appeal to me for some reason...
Thanks

REAL drivers, huh? So those of us like me who prefer the ease of an automatic, what are we, fake drivers? You know, just because someone prefers to drive an automatic does'nt necessarily mean that they don't know how to drive a manual. Some people just simply prefer, for varying reasons having nothing to do with whether they know how to stick or not, to drive automatic trucks. What the hell gives you the right to slam such people or to insinuate that they somehow are not real drivers just because they happen to not like the same things you do? What makes you somehow superior to them? Who the hell died and made you the authority on this matter, and what gives you the right to impose your opinions on others as if yours was the only valid opinion out there? Nobody basically knows who you even are!!!! I started out my career driving nothing but manual trucks, long before there was ever any such thing as an automatic truck, and I have almost a million safe, accident-free and citation-free miles in manuals. I can drive them perfectly fine, no problem at all. Just recently I started driving an automatic truck and found I liked it better. What the hell is wrong with that? People like you make me want to blow chunks!!!!CannonballSteve and bigbrett Thank this. -
Time to lock this thread down.

Please report the posts instead of responding to those who are clearly only interested in stirring crap. Otherwise, it just takes more work to clean it up. Thanks.

I now have an auto tranny. There's an art to backing up. And taking off for that matter.
Next time you see a truck starting out from a stop and it appears Bucking Bronco Billy is driving.....
one tiny millimeter too much fuel, or not enuf or not holding the gas pedal perfectly steady will bounce the cab like a total newbie starting out in 2nd gear.
Makes a person feel quite like a total idiot. :0(
