I'm a pre-hire. Did my first interview already. They sent me the packet for Crowder college and Con-Way is following me every step of the way.

Did you apply online? -
Yes, I applied online and they called the next day and said they were hiring in SC. I'm excited to start school OCT 11. I just got my permit Friday.

Congrats on the permit!...I start school next Monday!

My hubby applied at Maverick! They were his top pick and seemed to be a great company. Everything was a go but then he called to check back in with them. Well he was part of a massive layoff at his job. He collected unemployment while looking for work every single day. He would rather work anywhere than sit at home (think me taking the kids out of daycare while he was home added to that lol). Well this was right when the economy tanked and unfortunately our state has a HIGH unemployment rate and a job is hard to come by. Well he had to provide proof of his unemployment including the extensions he was granted. He did this. This paperwork had the backup documents showing the search he had done throughout his unemployment (they are strict on that here in our state).
Well the recruiter said everything looked great and to call at the end of the week to set up orientation. Well he called and they told him that he had to big of an employment gap from when he was on unemployment. This pissed us both off because he couldn't help he was laid off. To many HONEST, hard-working people are being let go b/c of the economy. I couldnt believe a company would hold a person accountable for this. I could understand an experienced driver that just stopped driving or someone that voluntairly left a job...but my gosh someone who was laid off.
So anyways..(sorry for the ramble) Maverick is no longer a plus in his eyes. He took this one pretty personal because it was something that was completely out of his control. I dont think companies should be allowed to do this with the economy the way it is!
***Thank you for making this thread by the way. It's nice to see the companies who hire recent grads that may have not been included in his search*** -
May hires new drivers as well
American Trucker -
EDIT - Just re-read the intro e-mail from swift, "Upon completion of the training you will return home and spend 1 week with a Swift trainer before you are taken to DMV to take the actual driving test and obtain a CDL license in your home state. Once you have the license, Swift will schedule you for 2-3 days of orientation, followed by (6) weeks with a trainer/mentor".
So they either changed that part of it or there is a typo in the e-mail.
