I can answer that question. Because Chicago is such an old city, the overpasses were built when trucks apparently sat on the ground. I delivered to Chicago one time and could NOT find an overpass on this road that was over 12' high. Truck GPS, Google, NOTHING got me off of that road. I wound up doing some crazy maneuver to get onto a road that would get me back on 294.

Many of the underpasses have been dug out, but maps and even signs don't show it. You got to know what bridges the underpasses were low, again, locals were a big help. I had my CB antennas on my mirrors at 13'7", and if the sticks cleared, I was good to go. Great Chicago joke,,,rumored to be true story,,
A truck ran under a low bridge, blocking traffic, while the towing and police disagreed on the best way to remove it, a kid on a bike comes along, and says, "why not let the air out of the tires"?
A_C_Cooper, Wargames and lual Thank this. -

I'll second that! Residential streets are so wide you can, or used to be able to, just park on the street and not have to mess around at either of the t/A's in Ontario.JC1971 Thanks this.

First trip there called the police asking for directions and the Sargent(sp)? Told me to follow these directions to a "T" of which I did and come up to a 11' bridge. After finessing a back up through a stop light to turn right to turn around, I finally got there. It was then from the warehouse people I delivered to, told me to call the waste management dept as they knew where all the low bridges were at. Never had a problem after that. Called the police back and asked to talk to that Sargent that gave me directions and they said his shift ended he went home. I'm still looking for him.....grrrrr201 Thanks this.

I've spent the last two days running around the boondocks of IA, MN, and WI. NY and Chicago aren't any harder than running on two lane deer infested roads, then having to back in off said road trying to get the angle just right so you don't drop the trailer in the ditch or the steer in the softish ground.

Just out of curiosity what's your opinion on Indian River?
