I wasn't going to reply to this, cause no matter what i say it would sound bad.

But I'm gonna do it anyway, and hope you are able to not take it personally but as a answer to your "concerns"........

Good, cause I question them enough myself....... LOL
Things are not as different as you think. Not as far as driving.
    Just some "paperwork" changes.

    I didn't.
Fire Academy is one of those things here that you get ONCE.
I did do some "upgrades" and such though.

    Yep,
I've done a LOT, and been almost everywhere.
But that never was meant to mean I know it all, nor was implied.
Those who think they know it all should hang it up cause THEY are the dangerous ones.

If you were good at it then, you could still do it now.
I bet it all comes back EVERY time you see a wreck or fire.
(but I think you know this already)

A class and a piece of paper does NOT make a firefighter, OR an EMT.
And I have seen a LOT that passed all the tests but can't do the job.

    Squirtin water isn't rocket science.
Nor is doing CPR or giving BLS.

It's all JUST like riding a bicycle.
    And like spelling and arithmatic.
I havent been to grade school in a LONG time, but I still remember my ABC's and 123's.
(but that's a "difference in LEARNING and Education" discussion for another time)

As I said on another post, I have been driving a little in the past 8 years.
I drive for a friend from time to time when he needs a little help.
    CASH MONEY.
The work has just not been for the "big OTR" companies.

I evaluate myself, and am evaluated by others regularly.
Men who wouldn't allow me to run with them, or for their boss, IF i wasn't good enough.
So, NO... I am NOT "rusty".

And truth be known.... in all that driving I did where I "done or seen it all", (which was the better part of the years between 1982 and 2003) I found that it WAS the "mom & pop outfits" that treated drivers like human beings.
And it feels GOOD to call in and they know your VOICE and NAME instead of a "driver/truck number".
So that road won't be as rough as implied.

    Okay, I'm glad.
(this part wasn't for me I don't think) LOL

As I said already, I am glad everyone is PROUD to have gone through whatever they did to get wherever they are now.
PRIDE in your work is a good thing.

BUT>>>> Pride is NOT the same thing as FALSE PRIDE.

False Pride is where you do the same thing as everyone else, to the same standard, and think those who don't or didn't do the same aren't as "good as you".
Or that a class and a piece of paper makes you more than anyone else.

    So let me CLARIFY something.......

I'm glad there are driving schools today.
They make it easier for people to get into trucking than what guys in my day had to go through.
And they SOMETIMES help eliminate the "school of hard knocks".

And I also think that everyone who wishes to drive a truck, and has NO EXPERIENCE, should go to a REPUTABLE driving school at their local college (or anywhere BUT a trucking company).
Heck, government grants will even pay for it MOST of the time.

What I AM against are the "driver mills" that make their money by giving classes instead of "teaching", or care only about the "tuition".

But that's all just me....... YMMV

"I also think it's HILARIOUS when someone with under 5 years exp tries to advise others on here, and I laugh my ### off when the driving school graduates spout off like they are something "extra special".

    I am medicineman,

Well its been 6 years since I graduated from CDL school as of next month and out driving, and I'm sure my school can be credited with a big chunk of my continued success, and ability to get great paying jobs (even in a down economy). I was a box truck driver for 10 plus years before that, and class A school was an eye opening & humbling exp. and know it made me a better driver.

I come here to help people, with recent information as a current driver in the industry and still not that far out of school (trained in recent times) as so many people come on here and spout so much mis-information, that simply is incorrect.....might have been true 20 years ago, but longer applies. And hate seeing students waste their time and energy on something that has long past.

Based on those comments above, I have decided to just be a lurker from this point on.......I really thought my background brought some value to the forum. I'm sorry I can no longer be your source of comedy.

i dont think it will be easy, but i know i can do it, just like someone who never drove any kind of truck can do it. for some reason jonny1 thinks i believe i already know how to even though i never said i did. i do know a few things, mostly about being safe, being very wary of 4 wheelers, and always get out and look if you arent 100% sure. for me, in MY mind, i think i will have a bit of an easier time picking it up, i'm extremely confident, NOT ####y, i have respect for the trucks. i've driven locally for 3 years and never had an accident, traffic violation or anything serious. i know 3 years is a blip on the map but i think it accounts for at least something.

i got a reply back from roehl, they have a school, 2800 bucks which aint bad at all, and if you stay on for 120,000 miles the tuition cost is forgiven. got some things to think about, i will definitely be staying with my local job for right now, if my boss gets a tractor trailer then i'll do an upgrade with out the school, if not i'm gonna stay around for a little bit so if i decide to go to roehl's training program, or truck school in general, i can come back to work for my boss if things dont work out.
