Everybody complains about the mega carriers, but one has to start somewhere. It is better to stick it out for a year to get your school paid off and the experience before you move on. If you jump from company to company, eventually no one is going to hire you looking at your employment record. They are going to think you are a quitter and not worth their time. You get the same bs no matter who you drive for. Trucking was the only job I ever had that I loved doing and always looked forward to going back to after home time was done. I spent 6 years in the military, I knew how to handle bs. I would have stayed had I not got injured overseas and gotten medically retired. I have been out for a year and a half now from the trucking industry to get my health straight and my claim with the va done. Now that is all done I am currently looking to go back to driving, hoping I won't need to go back to school first. I decided to try the college thing too and it isn't working for me. I have four years of experience and hoping to find a good carrier to go to.
It is what it is, got to take the bad with the good. I am single and not tied down, honestly I think it is best that way if you are going to be a trucker. Good luck to the new guys.

'talked to a few drivers'....out of how many in each company mentioned. I wonder....since he's 'crunching the numbers'....what the PERCENTAGE of each companies drivers are unhappy? There's always going to be a few bad apples. And I agree, if these drivers are so danged unhappy, why are the still with that company. Hmmmmm

I will say this...but remember, this is only MY experience (honestly, none of us can speak for anyone else's experience).
I have driven for several companies in my career.
I have pulled vans, reefers, flats/step decks/lowboys, hoppers, roll-off, and end dumps (basically everything but tanker & livestock).
I have done regional, long haul, short haul, 48 state, dedicated, intrastate, and LTL.
I have driven every brand of truck, utilizing every type of transmission.
In all that experience, in 18 years; I have driven for only 2 mega carriers: Knight Transportation & J.B. Hunt Transport.
They were BY FAR my very, very worst experiences EVER.
So that tells ME something...and if you're willing to take my word for it; should tell YOU something too.Gunner710 Thanks this. -
I have driven for 25 years i have worked for some companies i could not get away from fast enough and others that people say are bad but I did good working for them. Spent 3 months at Western Express and thought what a waste of space this company is. They have drivers that have been there for 15 plus years and are very happy with their job. Any job is what YOU make of it. You get back what you put in. If in your mind the company you work for is no good, start lookng for a new company but do your research. If your DAC shows you have 6 jobs in 6 months maybe it time to look at yourself instead of the compaies you worked for. I am now in recruiting and I see alot of drivers quit before they get another job and most of them are unemployable because of the number of jobs they have had in the last year. My experince has been that the truck you get from a company is only as good as the last driver that was in it. If you will look at the csa scores of the company you wish to work for and look at the inspection the trucks have been through you will be surprised how many violations would of not happened if the driver had done his/her pretrip insp. Guy and Gals it is up to you which company is good and which is bad. Do your research and check the csa scores. That will tell you alot. If you go to work for a company that runs older equipment make sure you do proper pretrips and dont move unless its fixed. It is that simple if they wont fix it take it to the closest weigh stationand tell the officer on duty and it will get fixed. I have done this. Sorry to be so long winded but its your life take care and be safe and live long.

What whole story ewill ? JB Hunt has treated many drivers badly over the years and now has a bad reputation that they can't live down.
Now , with the internet , drivers can spread the truth about companies.
I remember for years getting these little slips of paper attached to my truck. It would show information about a companys pay rate etc for owner operators. But it wouldn't show what company it was. Just a phone number. It was JB advertising. They wanted you to call and hear the sales pitch before you knew who it was. They knew that most drivers wouldn't even call if they knew it was JB. How pitifully sad.
Ewill. If you want the whole story, stay tuned. I'll tell you more. -

JB Hunt has different divisions and many terminals. Many of the road drivers I talked to were very unhappy with miles. How do you support a family on 1600 miles a week? I talked to 9 lease purchase drivers. Only 2 were happy. I did intermodal out of Chicago. I made money. JB is a large company. You will only be just another driver in a long line of past, present and future drivers. JB isn't fair. Just like so many companies today they start building a file on you. Everything counts. Appearance, attitude, motorists calling in to complain, hard braking events or out of uniform. Old timers say it was a much better company when JB was alive and running it.
