Try K&B $1,250 weekly minimum. The only conditions are (1) Don't be late for pickup or delivery. (2) Don't refuse a load. That's it! We drive mostly night. And I'm being 100% honest with you, worked for them from 10/2013-5/2014 then left to become O/O but things didn't work out well, so I decided to come on 08/2015 and I'm not leaving unless they fire me.

You should call your dispatcher and request a meeting.Tell them they owe you for the unpaid vacation time.Tell them about all the Swift trucks you saw driving down the highway while you were sitting at a truckstop. If they don't compensate you. Then all you can do is make a lateral move but then your going to have to stay at another newbe company for a year.Good companies don't want job hoppers

Thanks to @Chinatown, I checked out a few carriers that he suggested and ended up at Abilene. At first I thought the same as you, put in some time here while researching other companies to jump to after I invest my first year.

But now I know I will be sticking around much, much longer... In fact, my wife is also going to leave her chosen career this summer and join me on the truck.

While they don't offer a guarantee minimum check each week, they have miles and miles to give... So it's never been even a thought in my head... After the training program, which you won't need to do with your experience, I was assigned a truck as a solo driver the beginning of November and, other than normal dock waiting, I have only sat one time for an extended period of time and that was in Vegas waiting on a convention load. Other than that one time, which was actually more like getting in a 34 hour reset, WE RUN.

Great trucks with O/O specs, inverters, fridges, etc... Awesome no touch loads with much being drop n hook... And over all high quality freight.

As a newbie driver myself, I had high expectations from going with a carrier that wasn't one of the "Megas" and Abilene did not disappoint me.

I don't wish to high jack your thread so if you have questions, please just drop me a PM here and I can give you the straight scoop from the drivers seat.

    Stay Safe,
    MD

Having said that, definitely check into any carrier that Chinatown suggests. He did not steer me wrong with multiple good options.

Chinatown, my gut tells me that as well. I think everyone in trucking knows Swift well enough. Swift is good for 3 kinds of drivers: New drivers, drivers returning to trucking after a long absence, and drivers who have been terminated from another company for a wreck. It is all about establishing some safe drive time. I think the other carriers all know this.

Chinatown, I just checked Freymiller's website. They show 6 months in the last 2 years required. Are you saying that Freymiller makes exceptions to that? I guess I could apply anyway. All they can do is say no. Thank You so much for your help! You are the trucking guru!

Thank You. I checked out K&B a month ago and they show 1 year recent required. That is why I really wanted to get a full year in with Swift, but I just cannot afford to hang on.

I will look at the fine print with any minimum pay company. I've often wondered if they don't have ways to cheat drivers out of it.

Yup, you gotta watch out for the fine print! One of my buddies has a $1200 minimum and last year had a lot of weeks getting much less. Here are a few of the reasons he told me that I can remember:
    DOT equipment violation, marker light
Complaint from a consignee -- refused to unload at four different docks, dropping the trl at each
    Any eLog violation
Failure to deliver on time -- mechanical breakdown and snow delay
Failure to transmit trip sheet by midnight
    And a bunch more.

I asked him what the rules were and he read it to me from the orientation manual. About 15 different things and the first sentence said, ...INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO the following... which basically means they could make up any infraction they wanted. He still likes the company though...

That's why I like Abilene... Simple... We have miles, lots of them... You drive, they pay... Simple.

No "safety bonuses"... If you are a "safe" driver, you can work here... The job is the bonus. No games to work to get an extra $X.xx per week/month/quarter.

No fine print about "minimum pay" requirements to catch you in when it's needed.

But that's me... Guess I am simple... LOL

Stay Safe, wherever you land... :)
